Dry Microfiber. Doubly so when my nails are not smoothly trimmed

I haven't saved a gif in years, but this one just captures the emotion perfectly.

Someone: You have dry skin

Me: I do NOT have dry skin

microfiber enters the room

[–] Domi@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 weeks ago

Hate this shit, the cloth the that touches you back. Get it away from me.

[–] lemmyng@piefed.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago

Yes! It's like velcro but for skin. Absolutely disguising.

Yes! And the sound it makes when it rubs up against anything too. Awful awful awful!

More of a sound than a texture TBH, but the way certain types of styrofoam squeak against cardboard boxes legitimately sets my teeth on edge.

Wooden cooking utensils that have been washed a bunch or raw wood popsicle sticks or those little wooden spoons that come with ice cream cups, all genuinely revolting 🤮

Cheap acrylic sweaters/yarn is also pretty bad

[–] em2@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 weeks ago

Thinking about the wood touching my teeth just makes me shiver. Ugh.

I just talked about this topic with a few friends and family members and they all cringed in response. Every. Single. One.

If you're writing with a wooden pencil, the graphite snaps out, and the wood of the pencil drags across the paper.

Just writing this made my skin crawl.

T-shirts where you can sense the presence of the drawings/text.

[–] olafurp@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Stuffing for stuffed animals, when I touch it I can barely breathe. I have no idea why.

Raw wood. Whenever I see someone put a wooden spoon in their mouth I want to scream. I have to keep the wrapper around popsicle sticks.

There's this material that some notebook covers were made of when I was in school that made an AWFUL noise when you scratched it with your fingernail. Naturally the other students made a point of using it to aggravate me.

I can not pick just one and just reading this thread is making my brain go eurghghghg sounds.

The feeling of jeans at all. Toenails snagging on sheets. Hands covered in stuff with no paper towels. Many clothes. Anything in hair not approved by three discussions with brain prior. Sticky things.

[–] JackiesFridge@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Hands covered in stuff is a constant issue. I go through so many napkins when eating at a restaurant and still can't wait to be done eating so I can wash my face and hands. I can't even enjoy my food because I'm trying to race through the meal, touching as little as humanly possible, just so I can wash up.

The sound of a permanent marker used on cardboard makes my teeth itch. I know it’s not a texture but I can sure feel it.

Slimy stuff

[–] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Any form of crumb or sand in my bed. I will feel that one particle in my back like a dagger all night

Pretty much anything that is sticky or gritty. Sugar is the worst because it is both!

Anything with that "changing holographic" effect. Run your nails over that and in guaranteed to run out of the room trying not to twist out of my own skin.

Cheap polyester polo shirts

[–] weeeeum@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Chewing gauze or tissue. That sensation plus the squeaking and crushing is one of the few things that would actually make me scream

Then in general, wet slimy stuff (that isn't lube) or having vaseline on my hands (I think everyone would hate that though)

[–] Brosplosion@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 weeks ago

Really specific one, but the Cadbury Mini Eggs. The have a slightly rough candy coating and the feeling of two of them sliding against each other kills me inside.

[–] a_postmodern_hat@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

100% polyester is gross.

I really can’t stand this one kind of paper used sometimes in cheap mass-market paperbacks or colouring books. It’s coarse and spongy and literally crumbles if you try to use an eraser on it.

Not a texture per se, but having one wet hand and one dry hand 😱

Cooked raisins.

Anything that squeaks. Squeaking hair when its clean, green beans that aren't cooked enough.

I won't go out of my way to eat a pear. They taste ok so it's not the flavor that I find off putting.

[–] xtr0n@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Sclerids. The bumpy bits in pears that ick you out are called sclerids. I can’t resist any opportunity to flex random knowledge from my undergraduate botany course.
