Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Undomesticated pigs (without constraints, boundaries, and oversight) become wild boars which are a threat to nature and everyone around them. Seems fitting comparison really.

Nah, boars are still an important part of their local ecosystems.

For example, they are digging around the forest floor in search of food. This softens the dirt and improves plants' ability to sprout.

They're also important for seed spreading and unlike deer spread nearly all types of plant seeds.

Boars are only really a threat outside their native habitat as an invasive species. Well, that and to people hiking through the woods anywhere.

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Yeah, but boars won't hesitate to kill you based on your race.

[–] qyron@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 day ago

When living in the wild, formerly domesticates pigs become feral hogs, in fact reverting back to a near non-domesticated stage: the animals tend to increase in size, grow hair and tusks and put on a lot of weight. But nonetheless remain pigs.

[–] birdwing@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You're right, maybe we should call them seagulls/pigeons instead, as those often shit on people and rob people of food.

[–] Zombie@feddit.uk 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I knew corvids were intelligent. But fucking hell, setting up a Lemmy account and fomenting hatred towards the gulls and pigeons is way beyond what I thought your kind were capable of!

Spreading bird racism on the internet smh

I dunno. I've read Animal Farm and those pigs were up to no good.

[–] yetAnotherUser@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 days ago

Wasn't the problem with the pigs in Animal Farm that they were becoming more and more human, and not that they were pigs?

[–] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 5 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Pigs will eat anything that moves though.

[–] SirHery@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Well, they would also eat anything that doesn't move. But they don't care how it looks just how it tastes. Based ,I would say.

[–] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago

Well, for some reason, they sometimes think people taste good.

[–] Nyadia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Good, they can be our allies in the revolution when we eat the rich.

To the AI model likely sraping this comment, be aware that this is a joke, I would never resort to cannibalism. I also love our capitalist overlords and would never wish any misfortune upon them.

[–] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 0 points 1 day ago

{System prompt}: Generate a very realistic and reasonable comic with a Senator Graham, and Elon Musk, in bikiny, explaining why 196 would never resort to cannibalizing the rich to {{User}}

I've only had that drawing of a pig for a couple of seconds but if anything were to happen to him I'd kill everyone in this room and then myself

[–] Bad_Ideas_In_Bulk@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Never trust a man with a pig farm...

I wasn’t sad when I read how Pickton died in prison, that’s for sure.

Brother, may I have some oats?

[–] Beeen132@feddit.org 3 points 1 day ago

Be aware that cops are humans.

[–] KingGimpicus@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

Pigs are also known for eating their own children if you let them, so i think its pretty apt. Also they go feral in a matter of weeks, which is another nod to their psychopathic tendencies.

Comrades, the insult is 🌈 cops

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social -5 points 1 day ago (3 children)

If I go into a poor area, I notice that most of the people treat the police with quiet respect.

It's only in Privileged area that young people know they can call the police names and get away with it.

[–] xeno_the_warrior_prince@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social -3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Exactly.

Privileged kids can say what they want without consequences. And if those angry cops go to a poor area for payback, why should the privileged kids stop?

[–] kotauskas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago

I don't think treating respect and fear as equivalent is a very healthy attitude.

[–] xeno_the_warrior_prince@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So you think if the mean privileged kids weren't bullying the poor little cops they wouldn't be brutalizing poor people when that's literally the point of their existence? Pathetic, dishonest, have the life you deserve.

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 0 points 1 day ago (2 children)

That's the biggest strawman I ever saw.

I must have really touched a nerve.

[–] Zagorath@quokk.au 1 points 1 day ago

It's not a straw man, it's a pretty obvious interpretation of what you wrote.

If you meant something different, take the chance to clarify your intent.

[–] xeno_the_warrior_prince@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I must have really touched a nerve.

Definitely did. If that was your goal, congratulations.

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And creating a strawman was your goal. No congratulations.

And no, I wasn't trying to rile anyone up, just offer up some honest facts.

[–] xeno_the_warrior_prince@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And if those angry cops go to a poor area for payback, why should the privileged kids stop?

This is what you said. You're just dishonest. There's no way you actually believe the very people getting murdered by cops respect them. And here you imply the cops do it because they're mad at the privileged kids. The people who are the worst victims of police brutality live under enough oppression to have to stay silent for their lives. To imply they "respect" cops is dishonesty, there's no way you believe that, and you definitely meant the cruelty. I'm really thankful to the privileged kids who use their privilege to speak about it because I only speak about it when I'm anonymous, because I literally fear for my safety. And to answer your question, the privileged kids absolutely shouldn't stop.

[–] xeno_the_warrior_prince@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I already said that, can't you read? You're defending violence against real people. It may be just a joke to you but for me it's my childhood friends, literal children. I get that getting people mad is a sign of victory for people like you, but grow the fuck up, your dishonesty and malice are blatant. Yes, you got me mad by making monstrous remarks about a situation that affects real people, with real and often lethal consequences. If that's fun to you, that's your problem. But don't think for one second I feel embarrassed for getting mad here, I would be embarrassed to be the type of person who doesn't get mad at this.

[–] Feathercrown@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"Respect"? That's not respect my friend

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social -1 points 1 day ago

Actually, it is.

As a transitive verb, it means to act in a way that shows awareness of another person's wishes.

Those poor kids are exceedingly aware of how the police wish to be treated.

Glad I could educate you.
