This is also why I lose fighting games to twelve year olds, and have since I was a twelve year old.

Yeah I cannot get how to really play those games. Even when I lookup moves, how the hell can i remember them, and how in the world do you do L R updown AB while getting bicycle kicked in the face? Never got it. A shame becuase I love how they look (street fighter 2 etc)

When Street Fighter and MK came out, I had an EGM copy that listed all the moves. I’d start two player vs by myself and then just spend hours practicing and building up the muscle memory. Then when I had some moves down, play against CPU to get better. I’ve since moved away, but that’s how I did it.

In later games, most seemed to have a practice mode showing each move list at your own pace. I’ve since moved on from fighting games, but I’ll bet most have a good training mode.

Oh that's a good move, I'm gonna press that again. Hmm, it's a completely different move now.

Every time.

I didn't pay to block

Effectiveness for me follow a pattern.

If I have no clue what I'm doing random bullshit is fairly effective.

If I know moves but am not practiced, I do terribly whole trying to do specific stuff instead of random bullshit.

When I finally get gud 300 hours later I am slightly more effective than I was with random bullshit!

I don't think I have ever actually learned how to play Super Smash Bros. It's all trial and error with each character and pressing ⬇️+B. Needless to say, I'm not very good.

It's all about the controller man, back in the day having the 6 button genesis controller was like it's own cheat code.

Sega Saturn is even better with the additional shoulder buttons.

Never got one, but I've got an 8bitdo M30 that has them, I love it.

if i don't shoot something at the enemy when i do a quarter circle forward and hit punch i refund the game immediately
