I got this kit, just to try out a granny square blanket (8x9 squares).
This is a never again pattern, and never again yarn. This is never again for sure, not going back in 6-10 years like cross-stitch. :)

I think granny squares with a single color sounds like a fun and relaxing crochet. And if you like this kinda patterns my total respect for you!

I'm happy, now I am done with the squares. This will be a very small but nice blanket at the end.

It looks amazing, well done for powering through. I agree single-colour squares are much less faff. I'll leave an idea here for you: granny squares as pixels. Let it brew in your head!

(I'm turning a Super Mario 3 sprite into a blanket for my husband with solid colour squares. The Mario itself isn't too painful, it's the background squares to make it blanket-shaped that's painful. I need about 850 of them)

Oh my God, I love that idea. My mom was an amazing crocheter, but I'm much less talented. I'm a cross stitched at heart, though, and love pixel art. She made several items from tiny granny squares (2 inches to a side) and taught me to make those. I could totally make teeny granny squares and use them like pixels/cross stitch. That's so freaking cool!

That's not a bad idea. I just finished a tatted creeper - so many split rings - using the same method. I only posted it on craftree tho...

850 square is a lot. Like a lot lot! How is the process going? Will you shar e wip pics?

Ok I will not make any comments on my progress :D (let's just say I stalled).

I got that wrong, 868 is the total number of squares, I only need 449 for the background. Anyway here's my spreadsheet

It's just a simple countif to tally the squares, and I timed myself so I can work out the time needed to make the squares. Joining them together is going to be another battle that I'm not looking forward to :D

Wow, just wow!
Have you thought about using different blues? A tiny bit of hue difference maybe help with the task mentaly.
Like only 34 of the lightlight bule, and only 34 of datkerlightblue and so on?
I hope your husband loves you to the Moon and back ... Abot 868 times :D

Dammit this is such a good idea, it would have made it cuter and less boring! I've already bought all the yarn though, and I started attaching some blue squares to the sprite. I'll definitely take the idea on board for the next project!

My mom did several granny squares in that exact color and pattern! I'm not sure if she ordered a kit or just had the yarn for it (there's always yarn!), but seeing this really helped me out on a night that I've been missing her strongly. Thank you for the unintentional gift.

I'm so glad that I helped you a tiny bit! :)

Wait, are you my child? They’re doing something extremely similar

[–] SavarosaCraft@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Nope. But if I can do this, they will finish it up also! They can do it!

It was a kit from Amazon - and I do not recommend it: I really hate the yarn it come with. Snags, it randomly ends - frays when I'm trying to sew the squares together.
The pattern itself is fine tho.
