It's a four-dimensional hypercube, but that's not whats important right now.

[–] Equinox1289@sh.itjust.works 30 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I was going to make the same joke, but putting it in an Airplane/Naked Gun reference is perfect.

[–] GutterRat42@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Surely you can't be serious

It's an alternative front end for lemmy. Lots of instances that make alternative front ends available to their users offer it as an option

[–] turdburglar@piefed.social 25 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

so it’s like a winamp skin for our losers-only internet?

[–] Quokka@quokk.au 20 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Except it’s one of those lazy skins that’s just a jpg downloaded as the background and somehow it only lets you listen to Christian Rock.

I dunno if you're lucky or not to see this drama right when joining. When I joined there were so many posts about beans.

[–] Cybersec@piefed.social 14 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Beans and denim baby, tough times!

[–] Karjalan@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

Wasn't it also saddam hussein?

When I joined it was just people upset over the death of third party reddit apps. I felt right at home.

[–] Albbi@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

You must've just missed the beans, because I was leaving reddit for the same reason.

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

That tracks; I was on vacation in SoCal at the time and when I got back, the apps were dead.

[–] paranoid@lemmy.world 16 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

The GitHub page links to a live demo page if you want to check it out. I even see your post on there! Screenshot

[–] rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone 32 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

But you won't see my comment! I'm regex blocked babyyyy

[–] SayJess@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 3 weeks ago

Luckyyyyyyy. I wish my mom would get me regex blocked, but she said we have block lists at home. I tried to tell her it’s not the same, but she just kept saying It’s all about who you know.

Its a clean looking UI but how do they ban you for using it? Are they monitoring your comments?

For me I like the Lemmy old UI, simple and compact.

[–] dfyx@lemmy.helios42.de 26 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

They don’t ban you. The UI automatically hides certain instances, communities, users and posts. This is not officially documented and can’t be configured or turned off.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 5 points 3 weeks ago (4 children)

You can turn ‘toxic mode’ on and enable all the hidden posts, comments and users.

[–] dfyx@lemmy.helios42.de 13 points 3 weeks ago

As far as I‘ve understood, „toxic mode“ only turns off some of the filters, not all.

Also:

  • The dev‘s definition of toxic is far from my own
  • Filtering belongs in the backend, not the fronted and should be configured by the instance admin and the individual user. We already have that in the form of moderation tools and blocks. If we wanted arbitrary third parties to dictate what we can see, we could have stayed on reddit.
[–] snooggums@piefed.world 12 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

What a shitty name for not blocking content.

It should also be the default.

[–] SGG@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

There are some legitimate blocks in there to my understanding, the problem is they were/are mixed in with all the random "this hurts my feelings" blocks so it taints the whole thing

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 4 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

If there were opt in 'spammers' and 'trolls' lists it would be fine. The main problem is it being opt out and hidden, with it being a combination of those things plus 'people I don't like' being secondary.

[–] Mika@piefed.ca 4 points 3 weeks ago

It has more than just list of users, it also has random regex for message contents.

Toxic as defined by one person

[–] Trail@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

Brittney is the only one allowed to define it.

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Just checked and you’re on the list via regx

[–] TIEPilot@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Ah now I understand, its filtering. I bet it doesn't warn you about that when you install it... *sigh

One more UI to ignore, thank you for the clarification.

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

One more UI to ignore

one MORE ui to ignore? what else happened?

[–] Zier@fedia.io 12 points 3 weeks ago

It's a dildo that opens a portal to a better timeline than the one we are subjected to.

[–] man_wtfhappenedtoyou@lemmy.world 11 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I had never even heard of it before this, but that dev has given me immense Lemmy street-cred now. I was on the list!!

[–] davepleasebehave@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (4 children)

how can I tell if I'm on it?

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 3 points 3 weeks ago

It's like if people took that thanos snap thing that subreddit did really seriously. People seem to actually care about whether they were saved or snapped.

That's what it looks like from my chair.

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

some might be that way, I'd say the majority of people are upset that thanos snapped at all. who gave him the right to snap? not me, that's for sure.

Heads up: sometime after Lemmy v1.0 when legacy API support is dropped Sync will stop working. It already has several serious bugs that have been unfixed for like two years.

I switched to Summit a long time ago and couldn't be happier.

Didn't that get abandoned? I switched to Connect after Sync.

[–] Pistcow@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

News to me? huh, neat. I haven't had issues but guess I'll look for alternatives.

The question is already answered, but if you are curious your instance sidebar says that the alternative front-ends that are available to you on it are: Photon, Alexandrite, Old (as in looks like old-Reddit), and Blorp. Tesseract is not one of them.

[–] Mucki@feddit.org 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I do not understand why everyone is using the name of the codebase "tesseract" - which is in conflict with the absolutely wonderful concept of a tesseract - that is a four dimensional hyper cube. Why shame this beautiful word instead of shaming the name of the developer behind the fuckup? Save the word tesseract and shame the dev behind the frontend instead. Anybody care to explain their frivolity?

[–] foo@feddit.uk 3 points 3 weeks ago

Indeed. Tesseract is also the name of an open-source OCR library. When I first saw posts about Tesseract filtering things I was really confused.
