I went to visit Chethams library in Manchester because Marx and Engels used to study there and their study corner is still there. I expected to be probably the only one hyped for it (it is a 70 min tour of lots of things after all) but multiple people nearly RAN to the booth as soon as we saw it lol. They had books on Engles for sale as well and they were all gone after the tour. Sometimes I'm surprised to see other commies in the wild.

I saw where Trump announced he's running again, and I just wish he would have done it later so I wouldn't have to see an endless barrage of liberals saying that "It's illegal" and how "congress will stop him".
Also I am putting my prediction up of a Trump win in 2028.
When I was at Tishʻa Bʼav service a few hours ago, the Rabbi made no mention of the pogroms of 1917–1923 (but did mention the 1929 Hebron massacre as well as the Oct. 7th incident). When I asked him after the service why he omitted these events, he justified it on the grounds that mentioning every anti-Jewish atrocity would have taken too long. I then said that that era was very significant, and he brushed it aside saying that Tishʻa Bʼav is mostly about the destruction of the Temple anyway. (Although the service spent only a little time on the Temple.)
I know that asking for some recognition of the Palestinians—beyond mentioning the ‘Arabs’ behind the Hebron massacre—would have been an ‘outrageous’ demand, but I would have at least expected the clergy to mention the largest anti-Jewish massacre before the 1940s. I sent the Rabbi an email about the subject, but as I was rushing I carelessly left in the part where I wrote, ‘While most Herzlians insist that the Shoah was so unique that it was incomparable to anything else in history, it would be utterly baffling if they explicitly included this catastrophe as something else incomparable to the Shoah, which is possibly another reason that they almost never discuss it.’ If he ever reads that email then I get the feeling that he is not going to take that comment lightly; it would be so typical for me if I received an extreme reaction.
I can’t say that I was satisfied with the service, but oh well; it wasn’t for me. If it makes somebody sleep easier at night, good for them.

Thank you for sharing. I am not sure I would call it a photo-shoah, but it was certainly part of the larger history of anti-Jewish violence in Europe. And you are right, it deserves more attention.
I’m surprised that he overlooked my potshot. Maybe he was unsure how to interpret the word ‘Herzlian’.

The web being full of liberals is never a great thing but at least it usually doesn't prevent me for watching entertainment videos. For some reasons though I have encountered quite a lot of videos with crazy claims in the last two days. Your typical "communism requires following a leader without questioning them" or "Stalin committed atrocities" or "Cuba is a dictatorship" and I even got a bit of "Sweden is true socialism" and "people in Finland are happier than in China, therefore the Finnish system is better."
I have no idea how this happened, I wasn't even watching anything overtly political, but it was a bit infuriating.
What do you do when you are in a bad mood comrades? Me, I like to write stuff.
That's just how Western platforms work, anticommunist content will always be promoted, regardless of what you watch. For YouTube, you can use a proxy like inv.nadeko.net to avoid the tracking and "tailored" recommendations, at the expense of stability.

Anyway, social media platforms seem to tend to form a balance between ragebait recommendations and normal recommendations to get you to spend as much time in them as possible. If you follow a lot of things the solution is RSS. If you stick to a few corporate platforms anyway the solution is third party clients that filter out the algorithmic stuff if possible.
I try to distract myself when I'm in a bad mood. Mainly play video games while listening to some podcast. Neurotypicals may struggle with doing both at the same time, or maybe not, I don't know.
The attacker at Berlin Pride might be a Muslim so right wingers who also want to kill lgbtq+ people are coming out of their dungeons to defend us

Reminiscing when I was so broke all I had was an apartment, a phone and a couple pairs of clothes to my name. Ended up going without electric for like 2 months because I was pocketing as much money to get out of there. Landlord ended up completely losing shit because "muh pipes" but nothing was in lease demanding I pay it so he ended up just paying the electric bill until I moved.
Honestly i can't understand being rich and like, funding nazis or whatever. I'd honestly spend all of my money paying people to make specific games/mods for me. Like not even to sell i just have really niche interests

Was noticing how Lego stuff in a store was almost entirely sets based on popular media (such as Harry Potter or Minecraft). I can't remember too well if Lego was always like that, but I think to a degree it was at least because I remember getting some Star Wars sets as a kid.
Anyway, it got me thinking about the way capitalism chases whatever is the big thing and tries to siphon every bit of value out of it that it possibly can. It fits very well with the AI bubble. Also fits with how even a thing like Black Lives Matter could get co-opted and turned into money-making. Capitalism is pretty shameless about that. If people will buy it, somebody will try to produce it and sell it. And sometimes, if people won't buy it, they'll do marketing campaigns to try to convince people that they should. But the path of least resistance is to chase the coattails of something already popular. You just make something derivative enough that it's legal, or make some merchandising deal for a popular IP, and sell away.
Lego used to have its own IP. They had original sci-fi space stuff, some medieval knights and bandits, pirate stuff, some mildly offensive indigenous islanders, cowboys stuff, modern era lego city, and modern space stuff, Underwater sci-fi, Egyptian stuff.
I think star wars was the beginning of their decent into pop culture.

Lego wasn't always focused on major IPs, however the company began teetering on the verge of bankruptcy in the 80s and 90s so money ran dry to create novel sets, which only exacerbated the cycle of decline. The only factor that prevented a complete collapse was the partnership with Star Wars which single-handedly saved the company, and pushed Lego to adopt an IP centered approach.
The company did have several independent IP such as Chima, Ninjago, Atlantis, and Bionicle, but the company was aquired by private equity firms in the early 2010 and those IP were tossed in the trash as children were no longer seen as an effective target market. Now, the company primarily targets individuals in the 21-35 age bracket, and seeing as that group enjoys Star Wars, Harry Potter, and so on, the company goes all in on those IP.
I just became aware of this strange video of Putin singing Blubery hill to a crowd including Goldie Hawn, Kevin Costner, Sharon Stone and Kurt Russle and now you too are aware of it.
China is good and all but the USA did give us Jerma985 so i think they're equally good countries (/s)

Another heat wave is approaching in Belgium. We are nearing a month without proper rain, it's scary. I was watching the news here in England and some places here had 33 days since their last rain. In England. It rains forever in here.
I'm not pro-zohran by any metric really [social democrat, auto dismissed], but I dont really get the criticism of him not arresting netanahyu.
1.Hes a mayor. He can't unilaterally recognize the ICC. And he can't really arrest a foreign head of state, and even then what would the charge be? The only thing would maybe be delivering him to an embassy that recognizes the ICC? Then what? Idk
2.if we push past this and say "oh well ge could just do it anyway," he'd probably be arrested and deposed immediately, and that might be best case scenario. Worst case scenario people start shooting each other when there's no way he or the progressive forces in America would win.
Don't get me wrong, this isn't a defense of anything else. But I just don't get this one bit.
We can absolutely criticize him because of three facts:
He explicitly promised to arrest Netanyahu on his campaign trail.
He affirmed that he would indeed arrest Hamas members in accordance with ICC warrants if they were in New York.
New York City currently holds the legitimate President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, in captivity. There is already precedent in the US for illegally arresting world leaders, it wouldn't even be a first.
All that aside the real problem is that he lied about something he is either unable, or even uninterested to do, purely to signal to the growing anti Zionist sentiment in the US and use it as an easy way to score votes. I think it's frankly disrespectful and a little gross to use a genocide as a means to get positive press and not follow through on your promises once you get what you want.
This isn't much different from when libs were crying about South Africa not arresting Putin.
Arresting a sitting head of state sets a dangerous precedent that no country wants to set. It's part of why the ICC is a joke in the first place; nobody's going to enforce these rules except the people who have the power to escape the consequences, like the U.S. for example. It's unrealistic to expect anybody to follow through on these "arrest X leader" threat. There's no incentive to do so and every incentive not to.

!Is it unrealisic to want someone who doesn't drink, smoke, or do anything else as a potential partner? Living in a country where those things are the norm, and you are seen as weak for not doing them makes it extremely difficult to find anyone at all. At times I feel like he only person in all of the balkans who doesn't drink. I'd rather die of natural causes than smoke, and would rather kill myself than vape. Not that I want to die in the slightest, but I find death preferable to drug use. I wish I could say that "I let people enjoy things", but I'm a serial hater, whether it be gatekeeping bands, or hating the bourgeoisie. I think I only brcame straight edge due to being traumatized by other peoples drug use (something that I'm not gonna get into now). To me it like a very individualist "solution" to drug use. I can't help but put people down for whatever they do (finding out someone smokes instantly makes me think less of them), and that is a personal failing that is going to take some time to rectify. Seeing someone you love resorting to self medication instead of pursuing help is a horrible thing to see. There are definetly easier ways to learn not to hang out with the bourgeoisie than traumatising yourself. But this is definetly getting in the territory of self-pity, so it's best to leave this rant here.!<
