Yes there is much less activity than reddit. Yes there are much less bots than reddit.

And yes, you must take time and care to interact more than in reddit, if you want Lemmy / fediverse su succeed.

And yes, on the long run the fediverse will superseed all other corporate owned social media just because.

So, don't complain and be part of it! :)

People have showed up here on Lemmy reporting having been banned from Reddit (and for bullshit reasons) left and right now-a-days.

It's true Lemmy isn't as active as Reddit, and I definitely miss some Reddit communities I used to be part of. (I wasn't banned. I quit more on a "boycott" basis.) But Lemmy has its own strengths.

I'd recommend using the "new" sort and the "all" filter frequently. It's a good way to find communities. New/all has been most of how I browse Lemmy for a long time now.

[–] mountainRadish@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Thanks, that's a useful tip

[–] albbi@piefed.ca 6 points 1 month ago

Top 6 hours is also a pretty good way to browse Lemmy. Enough turnover of links to keep you interested.

[–] BillyTheKid2@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago

I got perma banned from Reddit for linking to epstein files and naming names.

Technically, the ban is justified, because I broke two rules; dox, and sharing content where children are harmed (multiple has (censored) dead victims in the photos)

But honestly, I learned my lesson and won't do it again lol

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 21 points 1 month ago (1 children)

What interests you? There's a lot of people here not willing to be the first regular poster somewhere but someone has to do it and others often follow.

[–] Shindo66@lemmy.world 20 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Be the change you want to see in the ~~world~~ lemmy

I was on reddit for a long time and didn't make as many posts as I have here in 3 years.

[–] Chivera@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

I was a lurker for years on reddit until all their bs I moved here and am active now.

[–] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 15 points 1 month ago
[–] superglue@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You just gotta hang in there while the fediverse gets more users, contribute where you can. I still visit reddit for specific interests that are dead over here but I only lurk, I don't cobtribute back. The fact is that if everyone leaves due to there not being enough users, the fediverse will never grow. From what I can tell it does seem to get more active over timez hang in there.

[–] EntheoNaut@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 month ago

I lurk as well, they won’t let me contribute if I wanted to.

I definitely miss the niche communities and am mostly happy with what’s happening here. Would love to see it grow so local communities become relevant and active.

[–] SanderZeldenthuis@nord.pub 11 points 1 month ago (7 children)

Pro tip, just about the worst way to introduce yourself here is to mention you are here because you were banned on reddit.

[–] IcedRaktajino@startrek.website 19 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Sadly, that's like the free space on the "What brought you to the Fediverse?" bingo card.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I still have an account in good standing there that I don't use because I can't use Apollo.

[–] IcedRaktajino@startrek.website 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Same. I moved because of the API debacle in 2023 (my original account was on .world) not because I was asked to leave.

I moved because of the API debacle in 2023

Same here.

I was proudly banned from Reddit

I was a mod of a top ten sub. I was banned for:

Banning Nazis

Reporting bots

Reporting gooner/csam subs (when the admins did nothing, I reported them directly to the FBI)

I made work for the admins, and they didn’t like it.

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 4 points 1 month ago (2 children)

And here I am, simply shadowbanned for using a VPN.

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I was regular banned for using a VPN.

[–] mountainRadish@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I live somewhere where I have to be on VPN all the times. Is there anyway to circumvent the VPN BAN?

Don't use reddit.

[–] neidu3@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 month ago

I am proud to have been banned from reddit

I was proudly banned from Reddit

[–] BillyTheKid2@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 month ago

And instantly I already know you're interesting and think for yourself. Because you don't follow the echo chamber like a good little redditor does.

Kudos to you!

[–] SarahValentine@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Got banned from reddit for telling someone the views they espoused were fascist in nature. Proud of it.

[–] Texas_Hangover@lemmy.radio 4 points 1 month ago

Who hasn't been banned from reddit at least once?

Welcome, there are a lot of them, it is just a bit slower pace here which you'll have to get used to coming from reddit, not at all bad honestly

[–] PriorityMotif@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] hanrahan@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 month ago

be the change ... :)

[–] yetAnotherUser@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago

!science_memes@mander.xyz is a good one for lots of funny and possibly informative posts (it has posts about scientists complaining about things they have to deal with at their jobs, but it also has lots of posts with funny and interesting information)

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 2 points 1 month ago

I peruse all. Many communities are passion projects of folks but im not sure if any particular thing is diversly active. I really wish sto or champs people would come here.

[–] oceanbloom25@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I feel you I got shadowbanned on Reddit last night. Had no warning whatsoever. I didn’t know posting in other communities and commenting on posts would flag spam and I get well banned. Have noticed people use the downvote more on here than Reddit.

[–] mountainRadish@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

🫂 lemmy will grow, I know it.

I still go and browser reddit because local subs of my city or region are fun

We should make a lemmy community for banned redditors

Like a support group.

For us to detox...

Nah, I am lazy

[–] oceanbloom25@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I never should’ve listened to the people who said I needed to get karma. I survived 2 days doing nothing, but the second I listened to them, I got banned. I would’ve rather kept my 0 karma than get banned at 28 karma.

I wouldn’t mind having a “Reddit Refugee Camp” here for all the people who’ve been banned for seemingly no reason. Make the description “If Reddit kicked you out, come here. We’re all refugees together”. I hear it can take months or even years to get a response to an appeal, so yikes.

Also, some Reddit users can be really mean. I simply asked for advice on how to grow my community and explained that I was doing it just for fun. People started saying I was advertising and that Reddit users don’t like that, or even suggesting that I could be working for the company to promote it and get paid. I’m like, I’m literally doing this on my own, in my free time, because I enjoy it. They really didn’t need to be so mean about it. 😭

[–] mountainRadish@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Dude, reddit is banning left and right these days.

You should make Reddit banned club community here on the fedivers

[–] oceanbloom25@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Is reddit using ai to moderate because wow it is trash. I haven't been banned on social media until last night and it honestly made me so upset lol. How many communities can one person make on here?

[–] Die4Ever@retrolemmy.com 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

/communities?listingType=All&sort=TopMonth&page=1 sorts the communities by activity

You can also browse the All feed with the "New Comments" sort, or "Active"

[–] mountainRadish@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I do that now and it kinda helps, but I consume internet a lot.

Reddit algrothim has something new every time I open it, hut that is because more users are on reddit. I have a feeling that will change
