I made it up
I mean, reskin Spiritual Weapon to deal the caster's preference of elemental damage? If I were the DM and a wizard player would ask me if this'd be cool, I'd allow it.
"I was gonna cast an AoE spell but then the paladin ended his turn in an affected square! Cut me some slack!"
Nah, throw that fireball anyway.
7+th level evocation wizard? The paladin might even still be safe.

Why didnโt you subclass into the school of evocation?
The wizard should have been doing that while the Warlock was arguing with the GM about the number of spell slots they had left.
