Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:

We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.

I love how they think exorcism is completely rational as a practice, but that it all falls apart at the suggestion that UFO sightings are the work of demons.

Yeah, how outrageous indeed! Now, will anyone exorcise this demon for me? My thigh has been bothering me for days.

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 4 points 1 month ago

Yeah this is weird because Vance has been saying that aliens are demons and brining the bible into it. You'd think the church would want to tackle aliens from that angle, them being demons mankind has to fend off. I mean c'mon if you think people can get possessed then is it so much of a stretch that UAPs are real?

[–] THEPH0NECOMPANY@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago

Hold up maybe he just knows something we don't. All I'm saying is I've never been possessed by a demon AND I've never seen a UFO, so technically this checks out. phoenix-think

Granted I was brought up evangelical, not Catholic, but my pastor always would say things like aliens, bigfoot, other cryptids, and most mental disorders were caused by demons. Even some angel sightings were demons in disguise. He also believed the illuminati was controlling the world governments, Israel was perpetually weeks away from getting a red heifer that would allow them to consecrate the materials to rebuild the temple and kick off the end-times. He passed away before Trump 1, and frankly I'd be afraid to see him here for that.

red heifers aren't super rare. if they wanted to make it a priority they could have.

I think it had to meet ritual specifications about purity that always seemed to be just out of reach. They still may have been able to get a pure one, but the websites he looked at always indicated it was so close yet ever not here yet.

Demonic aliens sounds rather cool though

You're making the classic 30k fallacy of assuming daemons are just another type of xenos (there's no aliens in event horizon)

Now we know the gleebies are in charge of the Catholic church. This shit goes all the way to the top.

i mean

john keel, one of the first officially titled parapsychologists and weirdo cranks, known for the motha fuckin mothman shit, theorized that the angels/demons of olde were the same inter dimensional beings as aliens in the modern day. his hypothesis: bright lights, loud noise, (radiation) burns after sighting, lost time etc were all things that those biblical experiences shared with alien abductions. idk it was a fun book to go through stoned

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Tracks, but I still don't like how this bleeds into the larger "oh aliens did EVERYTHING in history, because brown people couldn't" ancient aliens bs.

[–] take_five_moments@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

iirc he never really goes into things like pyramids being ancient landing strips for this or that, at least not in this book. he seems to mostly be trying to understand what the fuck people actually see when they see weird ass shit.

the link at the end is the full pdf, read it it's funny

aliens fucking around makes more sense than "god is real and he did literally any of the things in the bible, seriously, just go pick a single thing and tell me 'this makes more sense than aliens'"

Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?
