While everybody is laughing at the meme, hundreds (if not thousands) of horses are killed every year simply because they cannot race or are not profitable, many as young as two years old. https://horseracingwrongs.org/

To mention nothing of other cruel practices, among these forced separation from their mothers, nose chains, blinders, whips, over breeding, etc.

Breeding these animals is not funny, it is not a joke, and these breeders are awful people.

spent the weekend playing horsey game, if I was rich I would definitely be part of the problem.

TitleRather than breeding horses for winning, I began a breeding line just for weight to sell for glue.

Ended up with a breed of 3000lbs zebra with heads instead of legs to sell to the glue factory.

[–] CultLeader4Hire@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

They’re laughing at the name not that people breed racehorses??

[–] krathalan@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Right, but the animal would not have been named that if the people breeding these horses saw them as individuals instead of objects. "Just laughing at the name" completely ignores literally everything else connected to the name.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Yeah but horse names have always been a tad bit weird historically. Like who looks at a horse and goes "Hmmm yes you shall be Bucephalus"?

[–] gedhrel@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Someone who thinks it looks bull-headed?

[–] krathalan@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 month ago

Yes, and horses have been abused historically. The two are intertwined and inseparable.

Whilst people are reading that complaint, hundreds of thousands of ~~grey hounds~~, ~~cows~~, people, are dying or are going to die because of wars and the wealth imbalances of Capitalism.

This also thwarts and corrupts the democracy we'd usually use to stop these species level threats.

Yeah, and the Wendy's might as well serve the flesh of the slaughtered horses as well.

Dismissing serious, actual life or death concerns with statements like "sir this is a Wendy's" only serve to further silence a group of individuals suffering without a voice.

When I initially commented on this, literally none of the 20+ comments acknowledged the horrible reality the horse in the photo is/was forced to endure.

If I posted a photo of a starving child with a funny name and everyone was simply laughing at the meme, would you say nothing?

[–] BrickEater@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Horse is actually quite tasty, had some in Japan when I was younger.

[–] jack_of_sandwich@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

More than thousands of cattle are killed every year, too. Why is slaughtering horses worse than slaughtering cattle?

[–] krathalan@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 month ago (2 children)

It's not. I was trying to draw a similarity between how little "farm" animals are valued and how little these people value horses. If the meme was about a funny farmed cow name I would've made a similar comment.

[–] syreus@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

The world is a sad enough place without pointing out the obvious.

[–] jack_of_sandwich@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

They value the horses a lot, if they can earn money on the race track. But at some point their value is in their meat.

[–] krathalan@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

They value the horses as objects and property, not as individual beings with their own unique experience of the world.

[–] Twinklebreeze@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

If a Wendy's near me was serving horse I would order it.

[–] TheMinions@lemmy.dbzer0.com 49 points 1 month ago (4 children)

Got a cousin who works with horses and horse breeding and all that jazz.

Likely that this name is just a portmanteau of the mare and sire of this particular horse.

[–] jack_of_sandwich@lemmy.sdf.org 52 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Still someone put those names together, read the result and thought "that sounds good".

[–] TheMinions@lemmy.dbzer0.com 21 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Oh yeah. It’s still an insane name. But horse tradition is weird and it shows genealogy to those in the know.

[–] mbfalzar@lemmy.dbzer0.com 24 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Yeah, sire is Kids Classic Style and mare was Lookin Touchable

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 23 points 1 month ago (1 children)

https://www.allbreedpedigree.com/kidslookintouchable

...

I... fuckin...

One of the grandparents was "TOUCHDOWN KID" and the other "LOOKIN GOOD MR". From that the mother was "LOOKIN TOUCHABLE" for some god awful, unknown reason. The other side also made a similar blunder with a less "sensical" process.

"KID CLU" and "TOOTSY ROLLS REDFORD" are OK names I guess , but for some reason, they called the child "KIDS CLASSIC STYLE" which, IDK, could be ok? But then why combine them in such an awful way? Also, "Lookin Classic (Style)" would be a WAY BETTER NAME

[–] ICastFist@programming.dev 3 points 1 month ago

GOOD LOOKIN TOUCHDOWN TOOTSY KIDS when?

[–] TheMinions@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Lookin Style was right there. 😭

[–] PumaStoleMyBluff@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Lookin in Style was later taken by one of their 7 siblings

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 month ago

Either this is an insane fake, or these people are insane. It doesn't even show pedigree really, like the comment above says. There's literally nothing left of the names by the third generation, and it's mostly gone by the second. You might be able to guess the parents, if you're lucky, but nothing beyond that.

[–] GraniteM@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Well then someone needs to answer for Lookin Touchable

[–] _stranger_@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Her grandmother was QuiteaLooker and her dad was UncleTouchy.

[–] GraniteM@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Hapsburg-ass lookin' horse.

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yea, and its probably the best option given TouchableKidslookin.

[–] DickFiasco@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago

LookinTouchable, Kids.

[–] Lupo@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

I read, "and all that jizz"

[–] bort@sopuli.xyz 17 points 1 month ago (3 children)

iirc the horse names must be unique and may not contain numbers and stuff. And since virtually all real names are taken, random words are all that is left. (that doesnt explain this name though)

Fine.

[–] cristo@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

This horse's name is a combination of its parents names for the reason you described. It was 100% intentional and I would bet the breeders are laughing.

[–] ddplf@szmer.info 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Imagine the value of the horse named Bruce or some shit

[–] textik@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 month ago
[–] joyjoy@piefed.social 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I think they get a kick out of hearing the horse race announcer say the names.

[–] kibiz0r@midwest.social 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

“KidslookinTouchable in front!”

[–] joyjoy@piefed.social 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Average YouTuber patreon wanting their name to be said at the end of a video.

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Special thanks to...

[–] OpenStars@piefed.social 11 points 1 month ago

Epstein's horse (too soon?)

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)
  1. Jeez his face looks derpy
  2. It's weird that the name has no spaces, but whatever, "kid's lookin' untouchable" seems par for the course for stupid horse names
  3. I bet in a couple of years some japanese game will turn this into a waifu.
  4. *reads comments, looks at name closer*
  5. What the FUC-

Damn you for reminding me.

Lexington Kentucky has cool and unique street names until you realize they're all named after fucking horses.

Someone ought to ask Cynthia M. Masters a couple fucking questions.
