What makes naming every African country hard is the fact that there's like 3 or 4 different "Guinea's", and a bunch of island countries, and if you have to put them to the right place on a map? Game over. West africa is the hardest bit to match every country name to map, other than that it's only slightly choppy sailing.

Test yourself:

This is what i do for fun. While you were partying, I studied the Sporcle

Well equatorial Guinea has its location in the name. And for the others the way to remember is: Guinea as the true Guinea is obviously the bigger one and Guinea-Bissau has a qualifier to it, therefore it's smaller.

[–] bananabread@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Fun fact: equatorial guinea is the only African country that speaks Spanish

[–] wieson@feddit.org 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Well ... and Spain (Ceuta, Melilla and the Canarias)

[–] Mardukas@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Are these African countries?

[–] wieson@feddit.org 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

No, they're parts of Spain that lay geographically in Africa. Meaning Spain is a transcontinental country.

The Dickens. I did not know that. Thanks

In an old job, coworkers showed me Jetpunk. Basically the same thing, it seems.

So touché fellow quizzler

By the time you're done naming them, there's probably a new one up and you're now sucked into writing a wiki article on it.

Seeing this post I had to bang it out, on an old game I have on my phone that I probably bought 15 years ago.

I only missed Cape Verde and Seychelles! Still got it

My wife is always shocked to learn that despite communicating with him somewhat regularly, I have absolutely no details regarding any of my brother's upcoming plans or life events. Yes, I know he's engaged. I think I was one of the first to hear about it.. No, I don't know when he plans to get married, or where.. I don't know if he's going to South America again this year. I don't know any of this. It didn't come up. He will probably tell me if/when he does. I'm not really worried about it.

What do we talk about? Memes, mostly.. Most recently I've been sending him these fake Rastafarian AI doctor videos on Instagram with hilarious visual demonstrations of poop flying out of butts like a whirlwind while a passionate man talks about selling you his herbal cleanse. Now I've discovered the female version that is all about vaginal disbiosis and what to do "when ya poosee smell like a rotten fish mahhket" (you buy her herbal cleanse, that's what you do..)

But no, I don't know if he's coming for Christmas.

Damn, four days without having to talk about the usual bs sounds like paradise.

[–] ChexMax@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It's so weird I don't think of my spouse and kids as bull shit, but I guess you and 20 of your peers here do.

[–] MyBrainHurts@piefed.ca 4 points 3 weeks ago

I guess someone's always looking to take offense online.

There's the same insipid conversations we have all the time with colleagues/acquaintances, there's the deep conversations we have with a 1 or 2 friends at atime and the fun silly ones we have with a bunch of old friends. If you don't know the difference between them, that's heartbreaking and I'm so sorry for you.

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 12 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Talking about life is depressing. I want to do fun shit when I hang out with my friends. If someone has an important update they can bring it up but just general same old shit is pointless.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Maybe this is why I have no guy friends. I'd always ask how they were, and they would bust out in song, singing the Animaniacs song of countries.

[–] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

Sounds like my kind of friend.

[–] Herr_S_aus_H@lemmy.zip 9 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

I have done something like this with my buddies for sure, but we also talk about our families, relationships, jobs, health and such things because we are interested in each other as human beings, like friends are supposed to.

[–] how_we_burned@lemmy.zip 9 points 3 weeks ago

The real truth is he probably talked about getting high (or got really high/drunk), complained about his wife, life, work, talked money (and lack thereof), shit jobs and probably of either sports or gaming.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 6 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

9 days to just name capitals? They must be awful at geography to take that long.

[–] capt_wolf@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Somebody didn't watch Animaniacs when they were younger.

Africa is harder but Yakko's got still us covered.

[–] Omgpwnies@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

Some ML is gonna whine that Yakko (rightfully) called Taiwan a country.....

[–] erev@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Yakko didn't forget Palestine what a goat

[–] Muffi@programming.dev 5 points 3 weeks ago

I think you misread the post. But four days is still slow geography.
