We want to keep the quality of posts high. Therefore, memes, funny videos, low-effort posts and reposts are not allowed. We prohibit giveaways because we cannot be sure that the person holding the giveaway will actually do what they promise.

No one wants to be spoiled. Therefore, always mark spoilers. Similarly mark NSFW, in case anyone is browsing in a public space or at work.

Don't share it here, there are other places to find it. Discussion of piracy is fine.
We don't want us moderators or the admins of lemmy.world to get in trouble for linking to piracy. Therefore, any link to piracy will be removed. Discussion of it is of course allowed.

Raising prices and removing future games from pc, It's like Sony doesn't want any more money.
Problem with Nintendo, is it's mostly just remakes of the same games and characters. Also they screwed any customers who bought games before the switch 1, as you can't play them on switch.
The switch 1, they never fixed the joycons.. They should have recalled and redesigned every joycon.. But, for some reason people seem ok with that. Nintendo imho is actually fairly anti consumer
Ps5 I ended up selling. It's good but I figured I have hundreds of steam games, so there was no real benefit of having a ps5 too.
Use the console you want.. But, I'm never buying a Nintendo again. I'm happy to be able to continue playing the same games I bought 15 years ago on the latest steam deck
Nintendo is extremely anti consumer, even anti-fan of their own products.
Why people buy Nintendo products and games years after years is crazy to me.
I bought a Switch 2 and used it to play Donkey Kong and Mario Kart. They were fun, but now there's no more games for it really.
There's no new Switch 2 games even lined up right now as far as anyone's concerned. And they decided it's better to remake Star Fox again rather than make a new one, it felt like a bit middle finger.
Thats always seemed insane to me too, why give money to a company that actively hates you?
It has been like this for decades now. Commend them all you want for ballsy consoles, but they were always a predatory corporation.
People who didn't mind to pay alot of money bought the PS5 at launch. Those who didn't buy it then, were waiting for the price to drop. Increasing it now is not going to get them much sales.
I probably would have bought one around launch, but they were impossible to get. So I bought a gaming PC instead - no regrets what so ever.

At this point console cost just as much as PC so why not get a PC or PC handheld if you can?
man I need to be patient gamer by the next November when the new is GTA released only in consoles. Hope I stay a pure PC gamer by that time…
Pc prices are way up too
Because my hobby is gaming. I don't have time to take on the additional hobby of fiddling with a PC.

The days of having to constantly fiddle with your pc are pretty long gone. I built my current pc a couple years ago and have only had to open it for some minor upgrades (new ssd) and cleaning.
PC prices are definitely up though.
Depends on what you play on PC. A lot of AAA decent releases are, but there's stuff regularly on sale and it's pretty easy to accumulate a backlog just from sales of good games.
There's also reasonably priced releases like Silksong but that's more rare
PC prices as in the PCs themselves. RAM and storage are way up over the last year.
Ah yes. Getting a PC that breaks into the game market has always been a bit more pricey - though the Deck helped that - but these days the component cost is just insane.

For many that is even too much, then add to that all the software issues, fiddling with settings, etc etc. Consoles are and will be for a long time the simpler and quicker way to play. (For most "normal" people)
You have to clean your consoles too, dust doesn’t discriminate
Also, upgrading your SSD isn’t mandatory, BUT you can do it if you want

Their strategy right now is literally "Let's charge more to sell less, and let's also kneecap a revenue stream that could prop us up during this memory crisis." Sony has been winning so long that they forgot how easy it is to lose. They are gonna find out.
Edit: I just want to point out that Sony could have easily shifted this into a win. "Hey, this is Tim Sony, President of Sony. Right now, things are hard for everyone in the world of consumer electronics. For 20 years we've tried to bring you the best value in entertainment through quality games and low prices. Unfortunately, today, we have to raise our prices to match cost. I know you don't like it. I don't like it, either. However, we still want to give you the best value we can. While we can't control the cost of components, we can control the cost of our first party games. So, now when you buy a new PS5, you get your choice of any first party game you want for free.
