It's not Canadian.
Second Cup and Robin's are though.
It's as Canadian as any publicly traded company of that size can be. RBI is TSX listed and Toronto headquartered. 3G capital (the "Brazilians" people are referring to when they say that it's Brazilian owned) while still the largest single shareholder, is down to a 26% stake.
Then we can go one level down and say it's American because it's part of Burger King.
Nope. 3G, the brazillian part of RBI, is the ones who bought Burger King before merging with Tim Hortons.
I still fondly remember Robin's Donuts. There aren't any around me anymore.
Tim Hortons used to be good
So did Dunkin.
Now they all sell old mushy donuts that are made hours before you can buy them at a central location.
I miss old Dunkin. If you walk into a donut shop and it doesn't smell like donuts, turn around and leave.
Hardly anyone goes in there for donuts though. It’s all caffeine and breakfast sandwiches, with an occasional donut for the weak willed.
Why do you think they dropped donuts from their name?

The previous failure and departure from Canada DD did would suggest otherwise, and that wasn't even in a hostile environment.
I'm commenting that Tim Hortons sucks now. Whatever you're saying is best said under someone else.

If you're in Vancouver, go to Lee's instead. Actually Canadian, and arguably the best doughnuts on the planet (I've checked!)

This is going to work even more poorly than Target's Canadian adventure did. Canadian consumers are not as gullible and stupid as American companies hope, and now they're also very angry.
How can a business not read the room, so bad that it is going to cost them millions of dollars? I hope one comes to Saskatoon so I can purposely boycott it!

Outside of Boston, they aren’t very good. Stale donuts that taste like they’ve been thawed from frozen, and overly sugary coffee drinks.
Tim Hortons has leveraged Canadiana to sell the same bullshit, I’m sure Dunkin can find some levers to pull since Canadians seem to have absolutely no respect for themselves.

About five years ago when I last visited New York I happened across a Dunkin' while I was walking around exploring. I didn't expect a life-changing experience, but I was mildly stoked to finally check out their selection and find out how it stacked up against local offerings.
It didn't. Hands down the worst garbage donut I've ever had in my life. Coffee was no better. These guys are going to fold faster than Krispy Kreme did the first time they tried to compete (admittedly they seem to be doing much better since returning for a second shot).
Krispy kreme in bc had a line down the block for months after it opened.
But for dunken, Canadians are used to shit donuts, we have Tim's everywhere
I look forward to their catastrophic failure.

This is going to work just about as well as Target did. Unless their coffee is cheaper than Tim Hortons AND McDonalds it's not gonna work. I can get an extra large double double at McD's for $2. at Tims it's like 50cents more. So Dunkin is gonna have to have an extra large coffee for less than $2 to be a success here. And it's not like it has to taste good, I mean hell Tims is just mud in a cup that may or may not get stirred, it just has to be cheap.
Funny thing is there are rumours of Target coming back?
K well this time they're not allowed to build those red circle bollards. Pretty sure those things have been through 6 businesses and repainted 4 different colours.
I don't know, they're a very American brand, maybe not as much as Tim's is Canadian (in the sense of brand perception/ cultural significance). Even though McDonald's is American, it's been here so long and is so global it doesn't feel American.

DD sucks so much on consistency that their product offerings actually don’t matter
At this point DD's product is sugar. The last time I got a doughnut from DD it was fucking stale. All of the drinks they sell are full of fucking sugar. The DD food is wildly overpriced. A (stale) bagel with cream cheese was a bit over $5 at DD, while the bakery down the block has fresh product and charges $3.50 for a bagel with cream cheese.
I mean Timmies is pretty much all sugar and stale food also. For whatever reason you order a double double and they decide to give you a wayne gretzky. you eat like 10 timbits and you need to lay down and let your stomach recover from the dumpster balls you just fed it.
Now if DD can provide the same crap quality at cheaper prices it might do well but then we already have coffee time so....

I was in the US back in 2019 for work. The double double I ordered from DD made Tims coffee taste like heaven.

I would still be loyal to Tim Hortons if they weren't American-owned. So my loyalty to the once Canadian firm is gone. Bring on another Yanky Donuts shop.
