They walk like they've got their hands behind their backs and their chests puffed out.

Given that their wings are folded over their backs, that's actually pretty accurate.

I can hear this comment.

What is it from?

The sound of a crow. We started a corvid cult during season 3 of !thebutton@lemmy.zip ca-cawing at each other.

I mean jackdaws don't really make that sound

No, that's mine.

I saw a crow kill a robin today. It made me sad. I couldn’t get there in time to save the robin.

Fucking robin probably deserved it. You don't know what happened beforehand.

I actually do know what happened.

This robin has been gathering mud and nesting material from my garden (there are two birds nests in my yard this year). She started trying to build a nest on my door, so I scared her off before she could. It was a terrible spot.

I saw her with this string she found. She used her little foot and beak to loop it into a perfect coil. It was really neat to watch. I was worried about the obviously synthetic material, no idea where she found it.

At lunch I saw her and her mate in my neighbours lilac bush and hunting for lunch in my yard. So all seemed good.

Then in the afternoon I heard a commotion and saw a bunch of black birds flying around the crow. I assumed he was attacking a blackbird nest, since there’s at least two near my house. When I put on my binoculars he was pulling feathers out of something.

There was nothing I could do, by the time I got there she was dead and dangling from the string. The robin got tangled in the string and couldn’t move so the crow attacked her and killed her.

So yeah, roller coaster of a day.

The crow is known to me, I generally like watching him. He steals sandwiches from somebody and stashes them in gutters.

I mean, it’s nature, but I got a bit attached watching this robin.
