Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:

We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.

Was Jesus, or any of the people he baptized, wearing trousers? Checkmate English Christians.

Also, don't recall Jesus checking for dongs under those dresses (Edit: GOP Jesus would though https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZ2L-R8NgrA)

In Acts 8:36-40 Philip baptizes an Ethiopian eunuch without question so it clearly must not have been a very big deal.

Just the whole "judge not, lest though be judged" should be enough for them. They don't realize that their God is saying, "I will judge you using the criteria that you judged others. You judged being transgender as being evil, yet I saw you many times jacking off to transgender porn. Off to hell with you boy."

Why follow a religion that doesn't respect you at all?

[–] Wolfman86@hexbear.net 19 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Or vote for political parties that will take away your rights.

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 9 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

“Muh gender ideology” MFs when they realize a lot of trans people are their fellow Republicans in the south.

How TF is being trans a political opinion when that “opinion” is held by Republicans too?!

This is going to be one of the few things to move the needle forward, point out lgbt chuds, isn’t it?

[–] DasRav@hexbear.net 7 points 8 hours ago

That idpol for you. If one party is against it, the other party can choose to be fore it and make it a fight. Or not. Since in the US only one party has convictions, the fights are mostly fake and that's why it all feels hollow, one side has genuine hate and the other has hollow, brittle support.

I'm not religious but there's plenty of trans inclusive denominations in Christianity (Quakers, Uniting, Lutheran).

There are trans inclusive Rabbis and Synagogues, Imams and mosques etc.

[–] DasRav@hexbear.net 7 points 8 hours ago

Yes, you are correct. I am sorry that my one line of snark lacked context.

She should not go to a church that treats her like that then.

[–] oliveoil@hexbear.net 10 points 10 hours ago

I misread this as the trans woman refusing to take part in the baptism unless they met her demands.

Instead it was her being discriminated against. Unfortunate.

CHUDs: “Those wokes refuse to learn our objectively superior point of view! What’s wrong with them!”

One of us: “Ok fine, I’ll join and learn more about your way of life…”

CHUDs: “Fuck you! I won’t even meet you halfway!”

Ok guys, I think the CHUDs have abandoned the skeptic community. Time to bring back the late 2000s.

‘When I asked them why, they told me I was sinning as a trans woman and because I was living in sin with my partner.’

Acts 2:38 says baptism is specifically for sinners. "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."

Even under their own bigoted terf island rules it's nonsense. I really fucking hate how lgtbq people existing is somehow the violation that completely overruled all other stuff from the Bible. There are like two verses saying don't be gay but hundreds of verses saying rich people are all going to hell. I fucking hate it. It's always the one thing that bigoted Christians will triangulate on. You can be an alcoholic, a racist, a con artist, a cheater, doesn't matter. These churches will say you can work through it. But if you're queer? Just a complete fuck you. Immediate hatred.

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 12 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

To the average Christian, the Bible is just “gay bad, woman bad, non-believer bad!” and absolutely nothing else.

Like is it really so much to ask for some consistency? I've literally never seen or heard of a Christian group protesting outside of a tattoo parlor, Leviticus 19:28 “Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord."

And I've never seen Christians protest outside of a red lobster, Leviticus 11:10 "and all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you"

Oh but what a coincidence, reactionary Christians always wanna use their book to enforce the same white supremacist patriarchal stuff they were going to do anyway but ignoring all the inconvient stuff?

[–] ComradeRat@hexbear.net 1 points 5 hours ago

The lack of consistency between christians actions and the book they claim to believe in is rly the best demonstration of how ideas dont control the world. Exodus 20:25-26 is also fun

25And if you make me an altar of stone, you shall not build it of hewn stones; for if you wield your tool upon it you profane it.

26And you shall not go up by steps to my altar, that your nakedness be not exposed on it.'

[–] imacatnotaman@lemmy.ml 6 points 11 hours ago

Yes, and all of that is proof that a church that purports to be Christian disregards the teachings of their own Christ (which is many these days). It is also the highest form of blasphemy. It is also how they will be surprised if their book Revelations comes true and they realize they aren't on the side they thought they were.

[–] gwysibo@hexbear.net 12 points 11 hours ago

"transwoman" is not a good term. please just say trans woman

No one:

What is a man?

Chuds:

A man wears trousers and has a beard

[–] KhanCipher@hexbear.net 3 points 4 hours ago

Dracula:

A miserable little pile of secrets

[–] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 9 points 10 hours ago

I could say you shouldn't need some ritual or another person who has no bearing on your life for approval as a child of the universe. Have your partner baptize you if you feel you need ritualistic acceptance to story book characters. buddy-christ would approve.

[–] imacatnotaman@lemmy.ml 12 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago) (1 children)

Ms Carver, I baptize you on their behalf. My God is supreme in that none of those weak ass religions can compete. My God is so impressive, it doesn't even require worship. It just requires being as nice to others, and yourself, as possible. Regardless of gender, race, who you fuck (as long as it is consensual), etc. You are now free to seek community elsewhere. (Edit: I forgot to mention that my religion even has a name - Gnostic Christian Buddhist Atheism lol, you can call it Gnobism for short).
