Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). 3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Clyburn, 85, has said in the past that he wants to help Democrats take back control of the House in November and elect the nation’s first Black speaker, one of his protégés, Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y.

Neoliberals won't leave office, then vote them out in the primaries.

But right now no one is running against this dinosaur

[–] EmpireInDecay@lemmy.ml 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Even if he had a primary challenger Democrats would elect him over a new face, even if they were more progressive, like they did with Cuellar in Texas

[–] waddle_dee@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago

This is true for an interesting reason. Clyburn reps SC-6. That area encompasses downtown Columbia, specifically the areas that are more black, all the way through Orangeburg and North Charleston. Now, that Orangeburg vote is what brings a ton of votes to him. He's gotten federal funding for a lot of projects in SC for marginalized black people. I absolutely despise what he does in the federal level to hinder progress, but he's done a fairly good job of taking care of his constituents, at least the Orangeburg residents. Cola and North Charleston get boned by him all the time. He just shows up in an election year, says some dumb shit and leaves.

He needs to fuck off and retire

Reminder that he is pro-sexual predator via his endorsement of Andrew Cuomo!

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 23 points 4 days ago

Fucking disgusting, Fuck off and retire, why we should suffer so this demented fuck can hold power. He will literally die office how Fucking stupid.

Bro ushered in the primary defeat of Bernie sanders by Joe Biden

[–] justalittleguy 5 points 3 days ago

I see we learned literally nothing last year when like 3 old Democrats died.

There should be a new law requiring not just the party of a candidate in a ballot box but also their age.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world -4 points 4 days ago (2 children)

i disagree. if you can't be bothered to do your research, you deserve the consequences of your vote.

[–] Pricklesthemagicfish@reddthat.com 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I disagree if you are uninformed you should not be aloud to vote at all.

not be aloud to vote at all.

[–] dickalan@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

I disagree the consequences of your vote should be readily apparent at the ballot box most easily indicated by the person's age

91 at the end of that term. Insane

[–] DrWorm@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

He's a Representative, not a Senator. So that's a two year term, not six.

Edit: still dumb though, and should get his ass primaried.

While I disapprove of 85-year-olds running for government, I'm a few decades younger and have been losing my glasses on my face for decades.

[–] TimeSquirrel@kbin.melroy.org 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Also looking for my phone with my phone in my hand. Just ADHD things.

[–] loie@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Set phone down on dresser

Enter closet

Exit closet

Phone has vanished, never to be seen again

[–] meco03211@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Text your SO asking if they've seen your phone.

[–] P1nkman@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I did something similar when I was 19 and shitfaced. I called my mom, telling her to contact my bank to block my card. And to contact my phone provider, because I'd lost my phone. I called her from my phone...

[–] GreenBeard@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 days ago

Hell, I used to lose my glasses on my face when I was 20.

[–] BananaIsABerry@lemmy.zip 1 points 4 days ago

I'm 30, I recently said out loud, "oh damn, I forgot my phone", while I was texting someone and did the pant pocket slap check only to find my phone wasn't in pockry.

I was staring at it as I said it.

Him being 85 is the concern, not a common lapse of item awareness.

I don’t understand why anyone eligible for a lifetime pension and benefits would keep working

[–] fierysparrow89@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago
