Hi All,

Bargain outlet near me had a bunch of the "monster smart illuminessence" stuff at a price that made me try one.

A few hours later and I have them running properly on LocalTuya. I went and scooped up a bunch more given the success.

My question is: When is the local key issued and when does it change?

I'd like to get them all taken care of and put in the box with key written down so I can delete the official tuya app, and also not have to worry about if Tuya will change it's dev policy so I can't get access to the keys anymore.

As a side note, I'll give Tuya credit, I can easily see where that is a great tool for folks looking to offer smart goods... it's also exactly why I'll always be local only.

Hey, sorry I don't know the answer but I'm very interested in this local tuya thing, do you happen to have any links?

Sure! I clicked around a lot, but I think I went with this one: as a guide.

I'd still avoid Tuya as much as possible, the whole thing depends on their app and dev portal, so you're held to their whim. Also if you are doing smart bulbs, definitely let me know. Mapping the data points for them to function isnt terrible, but it's a bit un-intuitive.

No we have a baby monitor that I would really like to secure more, but I thought it impossible. Thanks! I'll check that out!

I've had bulbs with the same key for years. Removed and re-added using the original key and device id, so I think yes.

I add them, grab the info from the tuya dev portal, then save that in an Obsidian notebook.

Block those bulbs in the firewall and remove from OfficialTuya, but add to localtuya and all is good!
