Ways to tell that this video is fake:

  1. NYPD patches with gibberish
  2. Fast shots with unnatural movements
  3. Eye glasses that melt off with the face mask
  4. ICE wears military fatigues, with camo and extra ammo to shoot protesters with, they don't have uniforms.
  5. Eloquent fascists that are being respectful to the NYPD
  6. Strange things in the background
  7. The NYPD are doing their jobs

Fact check: Are ICE fakes trying to drown out real videos?

Also if it just says "ICE" on their uniforms, its almost definitely AI. The real ones say "POLICE ICE"

[–] CubitOom@infosec.pub 20 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I don't think I've seen it say ICE on any of the military fatigues I've seen

[–] Banana@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 month ago

Yeah it often doesn't say it at all

[–] homes@piefed.world 8 points 1 month ago

Some of them do. It’s just that most of them don’t.

People that are getting good at spotting AI should call themselves Blade Runners.

Deckard was a replicant, and more importantly, a cop.

They programmed him to believe he was retired, maybe also a way to not pay him, and it didn't take much to convince him.

[–] Ghostie@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 month ago

Been a bit since I’ve seen both movies. I’m due for a rewatch.

How does this generate sympathy for ICE? This feels more like propaganda for NYPD to make them look like they care. I would love to see some AI videos showing ICE admitting they are wrong and calling for their own arrest.

[–] CubitOom@infosec.pub 20 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Its not real.

This can be used as justification for a federal invasion.

ACAB.

Ok, but it's clearly created as nypd propaganda, not ICE, who look weak.

If you're someone who already believes that New York City is a violent hell hole and ICE is cleaning it up, then videos like this that get mindlessly scrolled past can reinforce that belief and are unlikely to be critically analyzed.

I'll add some other good questions to ask yourself to catch AI:

  1. Who's holding this camera? How are they getting this angle?
  2. How is the camera work in the situation? AI tends to be smooth and even movements, like it's on a track and stabilized, unlike real footage in hectic scenarios.

The best part is, these are somewhat unlikely to be fixed in the near future, as footage looking "professional" is desirable for the AI companies, unlike gibberish text and questionable physics.

Holy shit! That whole video is fake / AI slop? I need to step up my game detecting that. That's crazy!

[–] I_Jedi@lemmy.today 17 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Some of the tips for reality checking dreams can also be used for AI. Examples. So, you'll want to check that the various machines in the video are doing what they should, the objects in mirrors are located/positioned where they should be, the text and spoken words are comprehensible when they should be, and the objects still respect collision (third party pushing finger through hand test).

Notice how these videos also always include angry black cops yelling at surprisingly complacent white Ice guys for a little extra pandering woke warm fuzzies.

I’ve seen deepfakes of people giving talks on YouTube, specifically Richard Feynman, Michael Hudson, and John Mearsheimer. They’re getting quite difficult to identify, mimicking these people’s voice, intonation, and body language.

It’s to the point where media productions need to be PGP signed for me to trust the source.

Whack-a-mole: US academic fights to purge his AI deepfakes

As deepfake videos of Mr John Mearsheimer multiplied across YouTube, the American academic rushed to have them taken down, embarking on a gruelling fight that laid bare the challenges of combatting AI-driven impersonation.

The international relations scholar spent months pressing the Google-owned platform to remove hundreds of deepfake, an uphill battle that stands as a cautionary tale for professionals vulnerable to disinformation and identity theft in the age of AI.

In recent months, Mr Mearsheimer’s office at the University of Chicago identified 43 YouTube channels pushing AI fabrications using his likeness, some depicted him making contentious remarks about heated geopolitical rivalries.

One fabricated clip, which also surfaced on TikTok, purported to show the academic commenting on Japan’s strained relations with China after Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi expressed support for Taiwan in November 2025.

Another lifelike AI clip, featuring a Mandarin voiceover aimed at a Chinese audience, purported to show Mr Mearsheimer claiming that American credibility and influence were weakening in Asia as Beijing surged ahead.

“This is a terribly disturbing situation, as these videos are fake, and they are designed to give viewers the sense that they are real,” Mearsheimer told AFP.

“It undermines the notion of an open and honest discourse, which we need so much and which YouTube is supposed to facilitate.”

Had the opposite effect on me.

[–] CubitOom@infosec.pub 6 points 1 month ago

Yeah, I wish it was real. But know it is not. We are not the intended audience and generated videos are getting harder to spot.

[–] hemmes@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

The last clip showing an ICE agent being taken away with an NYPD-like patch on his ICE uniform. ICE uniforms don’t have local precinct's patches.

Plus same gibberish on the patch, the police truck in the background and the NYPD officers.

Edit: Screenshot with markups

Man, I wish this wasn't AI slop.

[–] scroll_responsibly@lemmy.sdf.org 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That got me 🤦‍♂️…for a second I thought NYPD went based🫠😅

Good skill to have in any case. The amount of slop being vomited up from the depths of the digital bowels of whatever computing has become is disheartening.

"Sotreé Seet" is a real place in New York I am pretty sure

Also not surprised that all but one of the belligerent NYPD are non white...

[–] quick_snail@feddit.nl 5 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Reddit is not a reputable source

I wish this was real. :/
