I'm kind 6. Two regular monitors and one large TV.

[–] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 29 minutes ago* (last edited 28 minutes ago) (1 children)

I'm #13 but the laptop's in between monitors. Does that count as mental illness?

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 1 points 2 minutes ago

Sorry, yes...

[–] troot@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 15 minutes ago

I'm 5, because I'm writing and reading a lot. It makes no sense to have a horizontal screen for text.

I'm none of these. I have two normal and one rotated 90 degrees for the odd legal sized document that gets scanned in. When I was doing a lot of data entry in one of my jobs, it helped.

[–] Soup@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

#3 is also dumb. Can’t do a single thing right in front of you, the thing is always off to one side or the other. Just commit to #5 if you want two monitors, or do what I’ve also done where my laptop fits underneath my main monitor(only applicable if you are tall enough to warrant such a high monitor placement).

[–] Atropos@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

I'm none of these.

One large center monitor, a smaller 1080p to the left and right, and above the center large one for a total of four.

Perfect for being a DM.

This is my mental illness, I change, rearrange, add, and substract screens constantly in my array. It's mostly for leaving ambient video playing in the background at my house, kinda like a little zen garden. I dream of programming all the TVs at a night club.

I got five computers in the array when this pic was taken. Three 2012 MacBook Pros, one on MacOS 10.15 Catalina, one on Windows 10, and one on Mint. Down low I have two gaming PCs, a 2014 build running Fedora and a 2017 build on Ubuntu.

You can't see my face but I'm cheesing so hard, this was one of the more ridiculous arrangements I've set up. I will use between three and seven screens at once on a normal day, but eight was an accomplishment lol

This is dope.

[–] pineapplelover@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Is this my sign to get in to GIS?

More importantly, do you like doing the work of a fullstack developer but getting paid and treated like a barely-tier 2 support desk person?

[–] faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 3 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Whenever I play D&D, I turn into the mapmaker. Send help.

[–] fossilesque@mander.xyz 4 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

YT search: "QGIS Fantasy Maps"

[–] faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 4 points 4 hours ago

My DM's gonna love it when I start asking about elevation changes in more specific detail.

[–] dkppunk@piefed.social 1 points 2 hours ago

For work use I’m #13, except I remove the keyboard, put the laptop in front to use that keyboard, then center the monitors behind it.

For personal use, I’m #3

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 hours ago

I have a CRT and a standard flat screen where am on this?

[–] JetpackJackson@feddit.org 15 points 6 hours ago (4 children)
[–] fossilesque@mander.xyz 4 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Geographic Information Systems aka digital mapping aka fancy databases

[–] TrojanRoomCoffeePot@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Interesting... still works without the new fangled fancy databases.

[–] fossilesque@mander.xyz 2 points 3 hours ago

It's databases all the way down, brother.

[–] pineapplelover@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 hours ago

11, and accurate. The only thing that stopped me was running out of display ports on my graphics card

[–] geomela@lemmy.world 38 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago) (2 children)

What's gis? Cos apparently I'm one.

Kinda like SQL but in polar coordinates

[–] Suck_on_my_Presence@lemmy.world 26 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago) (1 children)

As a GIS tech, there's one missing - the laptop next to an ultrawide. Optional normal monitor to the side :P

But yes, as a former weather forecaster, the 4 in a square is insane and unfortunately it was necessary on bad weather days. At one of my locations, we also had the PC hooked up to a television running behind us and had a separate real time data monitor to the side. So... Yeah.

id argue that laptop + screen and mousekeyboard is normie.

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 16 points 7 hours ago (3 children)

Mental illness is almost all of finance. That checks out 100%.

I have a software repo with multiple files that are over 5000 lines, IG wouldn't fit on 10 monitors. I may concede my predicesors who made it this way have a mental illness, but I have to get work done, and it requires reading that file on an appropriately large monitor.

[–] Jayjader@jlai.lu 2 points 4 hours ago

I daydream of #16

I've worked on a reverse #10 before (i.e. vertical monitor in the middle, surrounded by two landscape monitors)

Apparently Linux Torvalds works on dual 6k monitors

[–] Steve@startrek.website 3 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

I have one thats not represented here. Im fairly sure it belongs on the lower right.

[–] fossilesque@mander.xyz 4 points 5 hours ago

Your office needs some art good goddamn, sick set up though.

[–] sudo@programming.dev 3 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

I've seen a coder have exactly two vertical monitors.

Look, I'm not here to GIS anything. That's my pinball monitor.

[–] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 hours ago

I did theatre shit and qlab on a vertical ultrawide is a dream. I never gave up that layout.
