It doesn't even necessarily matter what she was or wasn't. It's kind of irrelevant.

She tried to wave a car by, like we've all done a million times, then two MASKED MEN got out of their UNMARKED TRUCK holding GUNS and one tried to REACH INTO HER VEHICLE TO OPEN THE DOOR.

The fuck would you do?

They weren't there for her. They had no reason to interact with her.

She could have had a rap sheet a mile long, doesn't matter.

[–] Ecc911@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Just like poor George Floyd

[–] rothaine@lemmy.zip 20 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Also a third masked man, from the same truck, TOLD HER to move her car out of the way

[–] dhtseany@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 day ago

Yeah this point keeps getting glossed over.

[–] x@niwego.com 3 points 1 day ago
[–] LoafedBurrito@lemmy.world 38 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah the nazi's on my local nextdoor keep calling her a "paid anti-ice demostrator" or that she is a paid antifa actress or some BS.

They refuse to use their eyes and ears and just stay in their fantasy land of unseasoned meals and fox news.

[–] Tyrq@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 2 days ago

They are evil and stupid, there's not much else to say, they welcome violence because they can't do anything else that makes any difference with their miserable lives

[–] NutWrench@lemmy.ml 46 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You know, if being opposed to masked government murderers stalking your neighborhood makes you an "activist" then we need to ask some serious questions about the state of "journalism" these days.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

Journalism? In America?

Nah, dawg.

[–] 4grams@awful.systems 66 points 2 days ago (4 children)

I was out with some casual friends last night, the topic of the shooting came up. I was sickened listening to them talking about how she was at fault for putting herself in harms way, how she was asking for it by trying to run down law enforcement who are "just doing their job."

We're completely fucked, most of the public just laps up whatever bullshit they are fed and do not spend one second critically thinking about anything. They just accept that 2000 masked and armed federal agents decending on our neighborhoods and shooting people in the fucking face is a normal thing and they save their anger for the people they are crushing under their boots.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Your dipshit casual friends, whom you need to dump immediately, clearly haven't watched the entire video, or are entirely comfortable blatantly lying about it.

The video is clear. She starts to pull out, realizes there's oncoming traffic, then waves at them to pass, then two masked men exit the unmarked pickup truck brandishing weapons and one tries to reach into her car to open the door. So she took off like anyone in their right mind would when two randos with guns try to pull you out of your car.

Your casual friends are bad people. Stop interacting with them.

[–] 4grams@awful.systems 10 points 2 days ago

again, these are co-workers, and this was the first indication I got from them about this sort of opinion. I'm not besties with these people, but do need to professionally interact with them.

The point is more that this is in idication of how typical americans feel these days. These are as 'normal' of people as I know; all my friends run in lefty circles and are well informed, so not typical american normies. I was just taken aback that otherwise normal, functional people could see things that way. I shouldn't be surprised, just the week prior I heard so many people accept that fucking bullshit daycare story without a moment's critical thought about it. It doesn't matter that the centers accused in the video have been exonerated, it doesn't matter that there has been ongoing investigations and prosecutions as a result. People hear something that triggers them and they just shut off their brain.

That's what we're against, I don't even think the assholes doing this are the biggest problem we have, I think the biggest issue is the apathaty and stupidity of the masses.

[–] man_wtfhappenedtoyou@lemmy.world 19 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That's really disheartening to hear. We need to keep hammering home that this is not normal to all our friends And family. People are understandably scared, and not everyone is as plugged in to reality. Sometimes they accept the narrative out of fear, they want to believe that if they behave and follow the rules they won't be shot in the face as well.

The good news is that you can only ignore reality for so long before it comes stomping down your door. The bad news is at that point it might be too late for any of us.

I am choosing to remain hopeful that these people will not get away with this. This regime is incompetent, and there are many people pushing back against them everywhere.

[–] 4grams@awful.systems 16 points 2 days ago (5 children)

I argued very forcefully against everythign they had to say; I even got an apology from one of them, but I don't think I ultimately changed any minds. It's just so much easier for people to believe that the victims are at fault, it lets them feel superior, safe, etc.

I have not brought any of this up with my kids, but my 5th grader came home in tears yesterday because he's afraid of ICE now. This is not ok. Our government is terrorizing it's citizens and most people seem to love the fear.

[–] paperazzi@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Yes, the fear and anger is addictive. It's why reality TV shows are so popular, it's why outrageousness in the news headlines are par for the course. Americans are so very disconnected from real life and have been for a long time. Issues across the world barely register on the average American radar. It's become a deeply unhealthy culture and I don't know how your country is going to survive this.

Who cares if she was an activist. Nothing what happened that day merits an execution.

[–] 5too@lemmy.world 31 points 2 days ago (2 children)

The administration is characterizing her as an activist and an agitator, in order to try to retroactively justify her killing.

This story is putting the lie to that statement.

Fully agree. Even if she wpuld have been an activist fleeing from the place.

Your instinct should not be to murder the person.

In any other countries, there are warning shots fired first, then they shoot at the wheels, then they try to detain the car by using own cars. There is no way the right thing to do is to murder someone in the head as a first response.

Yeah the right to be an activist is one of our most foundational rights as Americans.

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 10 points 2 days ago

incorrect

the murderer who puts himself in harm's way, got out of that way, and then pulled a gun and shot a woman in the face, that deserves execution

Remember, this didn't just happen. It was brought about by tech billionaires backing Trump, each paying him 1 million dollars just to stand behind him on inauguration day, by the Heritage foundation, by wealthy people like JD Vance, and the rest of the administration. This was enabled by a class of people without morals and compassion, who do not care for your country.

[–] comrade_twisty@feddit.org 150 points 2 days ago (2 children)

That’s why I spent a lot of time last year quitting all US services including reddit. I encourage everyone here to do the same.

US tech companies don’t get another dime from me.

[–] cheesybuddha@lemmy.world 57 points 2 days ago (12 children)

I sold my US based stocks at the start of this administration and put what little money I had in European defense companies. It's been a good decision so far.

What kind of monster just drops her kid off at school like it's a normal day, and then goes out and just runs over good law enforcement officers who are just trying to keep us safe from people with accents and weird food?

[–] Poteau_Poutre@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago
[–] Njos2SQEZtPVRhH@piefed.social 43 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Her ex-husband said "she was a loving mother and poet who had just dropped her young son off at school"
Her mother called her “one of the kindest people I’ve ever known.” Vice President JD Vance said she was part of “a broader left-wing network to attack and to doxx and to assault and to make it impossible for our ICE officers to do their jobs.”

It's not out of character for kind loving mothers to be antifascist.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago

It’s also Vance talking out his ass. This administration completely 1984’s everything at this point and Big Brother tells you what they want your reality to be.

If ya'll are hoping "this is it" and that we're going to see any kind of justice, I'm sorry to tell you that this will also blow over after you read and hear some of the most vile, lying bullshit you can imagine.

I mean, unless everyone actually does something, but half of this country is still to scared to piss off the other half.

Being an activist ≠ ok to be killed.

Or am I just being confused by poor wording in title?

[–] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 191 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The original narrative was that she was a protestor / legal observer. i.e. that she was actively engaged with the ICE activity in some capacity and that she had placed herself in harms way in the course of doing so.

This new information reveals that she was just a normal person going about her normal business before being randomly murdered by ICE.

Neither version says its OK to just murder someone, but the information that she was just a person in the wrong place takes even more out of the narrative that she somehow initiated the encounter at all.

[–] ThunderWhiskers@lemmy.world 78 points 2 days ago

Neither version says its OK to just murder someone,

That's the issue though and why this is important. The right is using this specific talking point to attempt to justify her murder. This shuts down that narrative immediately and forces people to wrestle with their own lack of humanity.

Who would have thought that giving a bunch of barely literate bigots guns, and telling them they can do anything they want without consequences, would lead to one of those power tripping bigots murdering somebody for absolutely no fucking reason?

This was totally unforeseeable.

Quick reminder to anyone reading, since the other reply here implied implications about what is to be done: whatever your opinions on violence may be you should never, under any circumstances, suggest that yourself or others should or will commit violent or illegal acts in your own country or countries that your country has extradition treaties with.

The revolution will not happen on Lemmy or any other public forum. You can only hurt yourself and your fellow travelers by posting violent threats or incitement to other illegal activity. Do not post credible threats. The cops can and will show up at your house.

I know most people have already gone over this, but for me it was important to figure out what actually happened. From the article:

Video of the deadly shooting (..) shows agents approaching the woman’s vehicle while she was parked in the middle of the street, demanding “get out of the f*cking car.”

When one of the officers stuck his hands in the car, presumably to shut it off, she tried to swerve and drive away — that’s when one of the agents fired three shots at close range. A video from another angle does show an officer briefly in front of the car as the woman tries to drive away, but he is not in front of the vehicle or in apparent danger of being run over when he shoots the woman.

These goons are hellbent on escalation, and encouraged by their superiors to do so. In fact, that's their real job.

"Good was new to the area"
She didn't know the area, had just dropped her kid off at school, got caught up by the Gestapo, got (rightfully) scared, tried to swerve around it all...and then got shot in the head three times.
Oh, and they've found out the guys name who did it btw.

Regardless of what excuse the ICE fascist make, there is ZERO reason he should have pulled out his gun and shot her.

He didn’t want to get run over? Well how is killing the driver going to stop the car from moving?

If she would have actually tried to run over them she'd probably be alive.

Now Americans need to rebel, so Trump can declare martial law.
It's all going according to his evil plan.
I wouldn't bet on the midterm elections actually taking place.
I hope good Americans find a way out of this, but the path is getting muddy.
