I know there are some notepads that divers use but I was more hoping for something specifically for the shower that I could maybe stick to the wall like a waterproof whiteboard maybe? I've had no success searching online unfortunately.

This is the correct answer!

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 60 points 5 days ago (2 children)

I would recommend not doing that. The shower is for you the place to let your mind wander. If you want to capture that you will stress yourself and your last place where your mind was free will be gone.

[–] Onomatopoeia@lemmy.cafe 25 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Which is exactly why he wants to capture the thoughts.

Not everyone is like you, don't assume they approach the shower the way you do.

I've solved long-standing technical work problems in the shower.

[–] TheV2@programming.dev 9 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I don't think they are saying that you can't solve problems in the shower, but that this meditative thought process is limited in the first place by an intentional work mentality.

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 5 points 4 days ago

exactly what I wanted to express.

[–] x00z@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago (3 children)

This is not true for everybody. Consider offering your view as an alternative perspective OP should consider, instead of presenting it as fact.

Wow those pads and pens look awesome! 🙂

[–] Goodman@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 3 days ago

Yeah, had one for over a year now and it's still going strong. You can literally put it under the shower stream and it will be fine.

[–] Mediocre_Bard@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Fecal smearing, if you have tile, works pretty well.

[–] angrystego@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Works anywhere but in the shower though.

Comments like this I wish I could upvote for the laugh and simultaneously downvote on principle lol. XD

[–] Mediocre_Bard@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

A third option would be nice.

[–] Nomad@infosec.pub 11 points 4 days ago

My younger brother has afriends that is a Brazilian math wizard. He does his best work in the shower. He writes his thoughts on the steam in the shower glass and has a water proof camera nearby to take pictures before they vanish.

[–] Onomatopoeia@lemmy.cafe 21 points 5 days ago (3 children)

Set your phone just outside the shower with a voice recording app on and recording?

[–] nailbar@sopuli.xyz 8 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Bonus points if you sing out the ideas, and even more if you can rhyme them.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

I got a friend these as a gift, he really liked it.

[–] vimes@lemmy.world 15 points 5 days ago

There are waterproof pencil and paper sets that you can attach to the wall with suction cups. I have a set and use it pretty frequently when I have some sudden shower inspiration that I don’t want to lose.

[–] Addv4@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago

I mean, you could set your phone outside the shower and record your shower, just speak out your idea and transcribe it after the shower.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 11 points 5 days ago

I just convince myself that they are not very good ideas. (RIP Mitch Hedburg).

If you have glass partitions try a grease pencil or oil based crayon on the glass(There's another name but I'm brain-farting on it. Oil pastels, maybe. Gah, medication that effects your memory sucks.).

You could maybe fab up a thick glass pane with a plastic backer and keep it in the shower. Hanging it might be tricky. I used to love hitting up the weird leftover building supply type places or even flea markets for weird stuff to repurpose.

The white board idea works, but you'd need one, with pen, that is specifically water proof.

Maybe experiment with different pieces of plastic from your local big box or hardware store and a grease pencil.

[–] Onomatopoeia@lemmy.cafe 7 points 5 days ago

Grease pencil should write on just about any surface in the shower.

Good idea!

[–] tpihkal@lemmy.world 10 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Grease pen on the shower wall.

If there was ever a good use case for a voice assistant, this would be it.

[–] Libb@piefed.social 4 points 4 days ago

Nothing special.

I have a decent quality paper notebook and a pencil attached to it sitting on a shelf nearby the shower (using a softer pencil than your usual HB/2B, say a 4B or 6B) and I can easily reach out for them whenever I need to jot something down. Not worrying at all about messing the paper with water as its sole purpose is to hold the notes for as long as it takes me to finish showering: it being decent/good quality paper, Clairefontaine in my case, it won't instantly break apart when faced with water. I simply don't write under the shower.

[–] pastermil@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I'd just shout out those random ideas and hopefully my partner is right outside the bathroom to hear them.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

"I hope someone has started dating me and moved in since I got in the shower and that you're writing down all of this gold! Anyway, like I was saying..."

[–] pastermil@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 days ago

Wow, I've never thought it could be interpreted that way!

[–] trxxruraxvr@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago

I don't use them in the shower, but you can get wetnotes from stores that sell scuba gear. Something like this should be good https://scubapro.johnsonoutdoors.com/us/shop/accessories/wetnotes-underwater-notebook

[–] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 6 points 5 days ago

I set up a mic on a stand right outside the shower curtain, and try to forget about it

[–] Tarquinn2049@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (3 children)

So many suggestions for putting your phone near the shower but outside of it... phones are waterproof now. I just bring my phone with me in the shower now, and use my notes app to write down anything I don't want to forget. I was already using it for a shower checklist, since I find it pretty hard to function in the shower. Also doubles as a way to consistently clean my phone, which is a nice plus, I likely wouldn't remember to specifically clean it very often otherwise.

If your phone has a charge port plug, make sure to keep that in during the shower, if it doesn't have a plug, keep the port oriented down, or you may have to wait a couple hours to be able to charge after. I've had my last couple phones in the shower hundreds of times now over the past 10 years, only had it happen twice where the charge port got too wet and had to dry before I could charge it, and neither time was when the battery was low enough for it to matter.

[–] Tarquinn2049@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Hypersensory Autism, in my case. But both are relatively common, so could be what it is in many peoples cases here. For me a shower is so much sensory input, I am basically forced introspective. Takes alot of willpower to keep awareness and move to the next thing on the checklist.

[–] SpikesOtherDog@ani.social 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

2 ideas, if they suck feel free to move on.

  1. Try laminating your routine and affixing it to the shower wall using preservation tape.

  2. Keep the water for just rinsing: I only turn on the water to get my scrubber and me wet, then turn off the water and lather myself up with soap and shampoo. Then I use it to rinse off again.

[–] Tarquinn2049@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Hehe, honestly, I kind of enjoy the forced introspective time. Forced is a harsh word, but introspectiveness is kind of nice. I don't really fight it all that hard, hehe. I do conserve water if we are in tough water times locally, but otherwise, I just make sure I have an hour free before I go in.

[–] SpikesOtherDog@ani.social 1 points 3 days ago

Okay, I understand that. I wasn't sure if you liked it or not.

[–] Nastybutler@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

That must be difficult. Glad you've found a solution to make it work, and I'm sorry things I take for granted are that big of an obstacle for others

Maybe you can voice record yourself showering and then start talking about it out loud
