I barely use the site, but just searching bluesky on bluesky shows what's up.

The ayy lmao CEO "Jay" turned out to be the type of personality who would be a CEO. They're apparently going after moderators for censoring transphobes and she's mad at people who don't like Nazis joining? I think? The CEO got ratio'd over it and is currently having an Elon Musk type of crashout about this.

I mean it's twitter tier gossip so take this with a mountain of salt. I don't know if the (blue)sky is falling.

Thanks for doing some grunt work!

No problem. I don't know what the Waffles Jay posted today are in reference to, nor do I care to dig deeper, but it's apparently very snotty behaviour.

basically someone replied to her saying that bsky users would walk into a waffle house and say "oh? so you don't like pancakes!?" to which Jay said she'd be "changing that" and then someone replied "so does that mean you're going to ban Jessie Singal?" and she replied with "WAFFLES"

and then everything just went to shit promptly after.

Essentially Bsky users finally discovered that their "safe space" social media site is in fact run by people that actually really don't like them.

the meat and potatoes is their "ceo" mocked the user base when people called her out for banning people that spoke ill of Charlie Kirk while not banning the most blocked user on the site, Jessie Signal, a transphobic journalist.

She then "encouraged" users to not post as a form of protest. Also somehow Lowtax's ex wife got involved. It's weird a weird mess and it's not a good look for either side. A. the bluesky userbase looks foolish for believing this social media site was different and a "safe space" when it wasn't. and B. Bluesky themselves look foolish for mocking said user base.

Ooooh, yeeeeah... even from a purely evil capitalist point of view, that's pretty dumb. Correct response is to make a non-committal press release about respecting all points of view while encouraging civility, and then waiting for the news cycle to move on.

Lowtax

That's a name I haven't heard in a long time...

edit: Shit, I didn't even know he died 4 years ago.

really? no clue! I know my ex-girlfriend met him at some comic con like back in the early 00s and she bought his book, he signed it, they slept together, then she gave me his book so....

if only there were some way to engage socially online without some kind of corporate overseer, shame these people can't seem to figure that bit out

Someone made a joke about how if you opened a pancake restaurant you'd get a dozen bluesky users barging in saying "Oh, so you hate waffles!?!?" and one of the bsky executives showed up and said they were trying to fix this problem but the replies to her were all asking about why a high profile transphobic person wasn't banned yet and then it spiraled out from there.
