I've known for a few years that Jerk Chicken just isn't my thing. I like the seasoning, and I like the chicken, but somehow together they just don't mesh for me. Plus all the extras (Yam, Rice&Peas, Celebration) just don't really taste that great.

On Sunday, I thought, "why the hell not" and ordered some Jerk, but this time I went for Jerk Pork. Just Jerk Pork by itself, no extras nothing. Costs about 7 quid, with delivery 9 quid.

My world has been torn wide open. I cannot go back to how things were. Everything pales in comparison.

Thanks for heads up! I'll have to give it a try.

If you develop gout, raise a glass of wine from me!

So here's a fun thing.

Northern power grid sent me a letter last week to tell me that on Wednesday they are going to cut off the power so they can perform essential maintenance. Because I work remotely in a call centre I won't be able to get any work done. So I booked the day off.

Anyway they've just cut my power off today. On Tuesday. Lovely.

Ah damn! No warning at all? Do you know how long you expect the power to be off for?

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 1 points 1 day ago

Powers back on now but they're still cutting it off tomorrow as well.

Anyway I don't care I just went to go see the new superman movie. It beats working.

Fast approaching burnout tbh.

I work for an American firm in the tech sector. They've become enamoured with LLMs, and fired most technical staff around me (both UK and US based)... Now they ask what the holdup is regarding everything everyone else used to do. Eventually they realised they may have fired too many people, and so brought on a contracting firm to supply me with personnel needed. Meaning I need to train up 30 or so Indians remotely on systems I never really used in the first place.

Got a week off planned in Shropshire next week though. So just counting down the hours before I can escape the chaos.

Same boat. I wish there were tech jobs in the UK. I miss working in my native timezone. I miss powering through projects using caffeine in the morning. Now I start work at 3pm and if I want to sleep that night then that means no caffeine whatsoever.

And then you can return to work with reinvigorated resentment. Sorry to hear about your predicament, though.

[–] javiwhite@feddit.uk 2 points 2 days ago

Haha you're not wrong!

I think a lot of people are going through similar if not worse, but I appreciate the sentiment nonetheless, thanks mate.

[–] PhobosAnomaly@feddit.uk 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

yeah alright cheers mate, how about yours?

[–] blackn1ght@feddit.uk 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It was fine thanks. Booked a bit of a last minute holiday so we're looking forward to that!

Brilliant! I've booked to take the squad next year too. Last minute hols are always exciting though, I hope you enjoy it.

An old touristy shop fairly close by didn't survive the pandemic finances, but has reopened this week as a motorsport themed cafe. There's some cool stuff in there, and got pub-like massive TV's at one end of it so I'm quite looking forward to going down on a Sunday and watching a GP there. Should be a giggle.

It’s been rather hot and I needed to get some painting done. That was not ideal. Otherwise good.

What about you?

[–] blackn1ght@feddit.uk 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You've been painting in this weather? Are you OK? :D The paint was probably drying before it even went onto the walls!

Yeah my week was fine ta, was just rather hot! I work from home and it was pretty unbearable on Friday. Seriously starting to think about investing in solar & A/C given that the summers are going to continue like this!

[–] javiwhite@feddit.uk 1 points 2 days ago

+1 on the solar panel and a/c suggestion.

If you can't afford to install central a/c. A portable unit will set you back £300 odd at Argos, and easily cool a room down (like an art studio, for example). just make sure it has a compressor or lists BTU measurements... otherwise it's probably a water cooler in a trench coat, rather than true Aircon, and the British climate doesnt allow water coolers to work all that effectively.

I recommend them to lots of people who rent or can't afford the renovation costs associated with A/C etc, and most are more than happy with results

The horrors persist, but so do I!
