He probably also pronounces 'Gif' as 'Gif'

The person who created it calls it jif and I am prepared to eternally die on this hill with him

[–] giantfloppycock@lemm.ee 15 points 2 years ago

Die faster.

[–] Tavarin@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

JIF is a different file format, so the creator is an idiot for pronouncing GIF as jif.

[–] Misconduct@startrek.website 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

That's fine to think that but it's stupid name is still it's name lol

[–] Tavarin@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

No it's not, it's an acronym. And the majority of people pronounce it smartly as gif, not jif. The fact I have to type jif to clear up the crap pronunciation is just evidence as to why it is pronounced as gif.

If ever there was a justification to send someone to a Cardy forced labour camp, this would be it.

“My name. It is pronounced ‘Day-ta’. You called me ‘Dah-ta’. One is my name. The other is not.” – Lt. Commander Data

[–] jet@hackertalks.com 3 points 2 years ago

It's Spelled Mr. Wheeler but pronounced Data, it's Slavic.

I still think Pulaski was a good doctor and they should have kept her on the crew.

What kind of monster are you? Do you also prefer beardless Riker? Geordie at Conn? Jellico?

[–] JWBananas@startrek.website 4 points 2 years ago

Geordie at Conn?

Having the blind guy flying the ship is pure camp, and I'm here for it.

Yeah she had good momentum I just pretend she’s on a nice colony planet solving all kinds of medical problems happily ever after

[–] K0W4LSK1@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 years ago

I sent this to a buddy and he was like yeah its data not data, but when I saw him the next day I found out he had it backwards. He thought it was data not data instead of data not data. It made me wonder who else has it backwards you know?

EITHER PRONOUNCIATION IS FINE AS LONG AS YOU REMEMBER THEY'RE PLURAL!

(Psst...I have no idea if I did that grammatically correct. I still slip up due to colloquial usage muddying the waters. Editing hates me sometimes.)

[–] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

"Pronunciation", but it's all good. Still kinda bugged how the noun quotation has been replaced by the verb quote.
