Title. I totaled my car by rear ending another. Luckily nobody was hurt at all, I steered off when I understood I won't be able to stop so it was mostly side-to-side contact, caught between a highway barrier and the other car. It happened 7 hours ago and I am still shaken. It was clearly my fault.

I am privileged to have savings so I am able to cover my expenses for a new car (I need one due to my living situation), but it still sucks a lot.

I just wanted to get this off my chest.

I am just happy that nobody got hurt. Drive safe everybody, and fuck cars

That sucks! Funny, I've been in maybe 8 accidents in my life and none of them were my fault. Just bad luck!

The woman whose car I hit said she was in a few as well, also not her fault. Bad luck indeed. I apologized profusely, and she said that she knows it was obviously not on purpose and that shit happens.

That sound awful, glad you're okay though. Cars today, while bad, have some pretty robust safety features (granted it's not a tesla).

They have some pretty robust safety features for their occupants. For people outside the car, they've actually gotten more dangerous.

Pretty much. Like in the case of notably trucks and suvs.

Even sedans have been following the trend of increasing hood height, the single biggest predictor of pedestrian death

I had once gone into a ditch (spinned out on an icy road) and landed in deep snow, also no injuries. This felt similar, no sudden crash, just a dangerous loss of control. I also kinda liked my car (as much as I can like a car, that is), and it sucks that I need to get a new one now.

Glad you're safe both times.

Yeah, but I am starting to suspect I'm a bad driver

Glad you're alright.

It was clearly my fault.

Yeah, your stopping distance is longer when you gotta pull some person's hair to get them to hit the brakes.

Jokes aside, glad everyone is ok.

multiple decades ago, i almost rear ended somebody. as in, brakes locked, tires squealing (so loud!) for 10 seconds straight, and i come to a stop within about 5 inches of tapping their back bumper. i thought for sure the show was over and i was about to ka-blam into the back of somebody sitting at a red light. but, i just barely avoided it. so, i'm stopped and i'm basically standing on the brake pedal and a cloud of rubber smoke wafts passed the car. fuck me.

once we got going again, i pulled off and got out of the car because my legs were jumping all over the place from the adrenaline.

I misread the title as I was in a car wash today.
