Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

“I’m being told the family is being processed for expedited removal, which allows rapid deportation without a hearing before an immigration court/judge,” he wrote on X.

If some groups don't get hearings, there's no way to prove you're not in that group.

This story is fucking wild. They cancelled the visa and then immediately arrested them. Not deported, not even given time to buy a ticket out of the country. Just declared illegal and put in prison for something a relative did.

Nobody remembers this, but in the run up to the election, I was telling all the "Genocide Joe" folks that if Trump gets elected, he will not only advance the genocide in Gaza, he will bring the worst Israeli policies here...

Yeah... about that...

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israeli_demolition_of_Palestinian_property

"the IDF started employing a tactic of surrounding such houses, calling on the occupants (civilian and militant) to exit, and demolishing the house on top of the militants that do not surrender. This tactic, called nohal sir lachatz (Hebrew: נוהל סיר לחץ, lit. 'pressure pot'), is now used whenever feasible (i.e., non-multi rise building that is separated from other houses)."

tl;dr - When Israel identifies a suicide bomber, they surround the house of that persons family and bulldoze it to the ground.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sippenhaft

Sippenhaft or Sippenhaftung is a German term for the idea that a family or clan shares the responsibility for a crime or act committed by one of its members, justifying collective punishment. (...) It was adopted by Nazi Germany to justify the punishment of kin (relatives, spouse) for the offence of a family member.

add to the list of parallels to Germany in the 30's: (1) RFK implementing our own version of Aktion 74 (nazis ''forced euthanasia" of 'undesirables' including the disabled and sickly; the US version simply removes healthcare and obfuscates medical science). (2) The German 'Law of preventing overcrowding of universities' which sought to remove all undesirables from the higher education system - focused on Jewish people but also foreigners in general, and removal of those not party-aligned; The US version is starting by banning Harvard from enrolling foreign students and forcing schools to make lists of 'suspect' students, mainly Chinese students and pro-Palestine students

Apologies for nit-picking, but it's Aktion T4

[–] brendansimms@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

Nit picking appreciated! I can’t believe I’ve been reading it and seeing ‘7’ instead of ‘T’

[–] ryedaft@sh.itjust.works 20 points 8 months ago (2 children)

But does he have citizenship, does his wife / children? No real details here.

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 32 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Doesn’t matter, does it?

[–] not_that_guy05@lemmy.world 11 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (1 children)

What do you mean it doesn't matter? Like it doesn't matter because the Trump regime is going to deported without due process, or it doesn't matter because they are relatives of a person that did crimes?

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 31 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I mean they’re going to disappear whoever they want with zero consequences and no recourse for their victims. Whether or not any of these people are citizens or legal residents is irrelevant.

Sometimes I forget that my tone of voice doesn’t necessarily translate into text. I appreciate your asking for clarification.

[–] not_that_guy05@lemmy.world 13 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Yup no problem. It happens. Misunderstanding.

[–] underwire212@lemm.ee 3 points 8 months ago

Now kiss you two

[–] ryedaft@sh.itjust.works 6 points 8 months ago

Well, if you're on a visa that can be cancelled for any number of reasons. And there's never a judge involved in that.

[–] cecilkorik@lemmy.ca 30 points 8 months ago

That's the fun part. No due process means no answers to those questions or any other details are needed anymore. Detention is now arbitrary, deportation is arbitrary, and crime is arbitrary. If you're not either appalled or terrified or both, you're not paying attention.

[–] wiLD0@lemmy.world 10 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (1 children)

I wouldn’t be surprised if the wife and children lose their lives wherever they’re deported.

[–] LemmyFeed@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 8 months ago

Or just get killed here with a fabricated story of their deportation.
