Gromit mug, innit?

[–] smeg@feddit.uk 24 points 1 month ago

Why would you not choose the obviously superior Gromit mug?

it's always so wild to see ancient art being realistic, and then you look at medieval art and it's just..

Interesting how much the ancient mug looks like modern dog breeds. I would've expected them to look more wolfy.

The domestication of wolves happened between 15000 and 40000 years ago. That mug is “only” 2400 years old.

It's largely because I'm not sure to what extent breeds existed in the ancient world but I suppose considering the time spans involved I shouldn't be surprised.

(Does this exist? It deserves to exist, if for no other reason than to encourage heated debates over where psychology memes should go)

"History is written by the victors." - what I immediately thought of.

I guess for thousands of years we’ve been looking at our dogs and thinking ‘that’s kinda neat, I would like more things to remind me of you’.

Like, drinking out of it's head.

The 4th Century BCE Greek Mug™ Dog's face expression is subtle anthropomorphism at its finest.

Nah, that's your typical doggy side-eye, very much species specific. You'll see it several times a day.

How much radically different were you expecting people living then to be? Running around at 90 kph in magical celery shoes? People living much further back were memorializing their hands on cave walls and we do much the same but with canvas and other media.
