Stories like Reid Tomasko’s - and others who’ve had Tesla buy back their defective Cybertrucks - highlight how the EV ownership journey can take unexpected turns.

I wish they wouldn't conflate these dumpsters with EVs as a whole.

So he skipped shorting TSLA and just shorted the actual Swastikar instead?

[–] Elkot@lemmy.world 28 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (2 children)

Wait... Why buy another Tesla?

[–] Realitaetsverlust@lemmy.zip 11 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

Maybe he plans to torch it, claim it was protestors and get a full refund from his insurance, rinse and repeat?

[–] jagged_circle@feddit.nl 18 points 13 hours ago

This is a good allegory for what's happening to the stock market now and how the billionaires are profiting immensely.

Kinda fucked the author didn't make that connection.

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 14 points 13 hours ago

They all should have sold them back after the first Nazi salute, and made it abundantly clear why they were doing so, if you ask me.

[–] Diddlydee@feddit.uk 34 points 16 hours ago (3 children)

Why anyone would want a Swastikar for any amount of money is beyond my understanding.

[–] TheRealKuni@midwest.social 20 points 15 hours ago

That’s the make, not the model. I know people who have been plenty happy with their Swasticar Model 3.

Why you would want a Swasticar Deplorean though is completely beyond me.

[–] selokichtli@lemmy.ml 4 points 11 hours ago

It evolved to swatikkkar recently.

[–] dream_weasel@sh.itjust.works 1 points 12 hours ago

So you can go park and abandon it in front of the gas pumps in some tiny trump town in the middle of Indiana or something?

[–] ExtantHuman@lemm.ee 46 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

...but they're ALL defective

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 24 points 15 hours ago

Shhhh, sh sh sh. This is a learning moment.

[–] huppakee@lemm.ee 20 points 15 hours ago

This happened to me with Sennheiser headphones. They broke, and I returned them. They by now had become the old model which was sold out. So they gave me a gift card which allowed me to buy new model for a price lower than my initial purchase. Gotta love those warranty laws.

[–] RymrgandsDaughter@lemmy.world 8 points 13 hours ago

I hope the next one explodes on him

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 193 points 22 hours ago (5 children)

Why not just take the money and get a non-nazi mobile?

[–] lectricleopard@lemmy.world 108 points 22 hours ago

This was a stupid purchase the first time. Learning Elon is a Nazi won't make this person smarter.

[–] DavidGA@lemmy.world 32 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

Because they are a Nazi. It’s not rocket science.

At least Nazi rockets were supposed to explode.

[–] Akasazh@feddit.nl 13 points 17 hours ago

Buying into the cult like it's scientology

[–] TheV2@programming.dev 40 points 22 hours ago (3 children)
[–] Klear@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

But why not just take the money and get a non-nazi mobile?

[–] rigatti@lemmy.world 25 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

Will the price eventually hit 0 or is it asymptotic?

[–] macaw_dean_settle@lemmy.world 9 points 21 hours ago

Eventually, Elon will pay people to take his "trucks."

[–] Bloodyhog@lemmy.world 5 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

No, as there will always be a lot of metal for scrap. What is the price of aluminium at your local scrapyard? That will give you an idea for the price floor.

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 1 points 15 hours ago

Those batteries are easily the most valuable part.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 9 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

Oh, I know this one! It's like the Hans im Glück (Hans in Luck / Variants) tale: Hans starts with a cow and ends up with a rock, through a series of "advantageous" swaps.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 9 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Swasticar Wankpanzers are among the most effective and modern ways to advertise that you are both single and really fucking horny.

It also advertises that one has a really tiny dick and is a total asswipe, which is the combined reason for the first part.

[–] TheRealKuni@midwest.social 4 points 15 hours ago

Wankpanzer is good, but I prefer Deplorean.

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 109 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

He had me in the first half, but holy shit.

Anyone think he'll be genuinely surprised when it falls apart?

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 28 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

Narrator: "As it turned out, the glue had never been defective."

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 11 points 20 hours ago

You buy a thing, you end up being able to get $30k back

If I wanted that stupid looking car, I'd be overjoyed too. Especially if I think I can return it again and get it even cheaper

[–] frazw@lemmy.world 55 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Tesla: Due to the attacks on our dealerships and stock, we currently only have refurbished cybertrucks to offer. Here is one which has the panels reattached. It's just like it came out of the factory.

Customer: wasn't that mine that I just returned?

Tesla: yeah but this time we used gorilla glue. Please ignore the finger prints and hairs that got stuck to it. We let Elon's kid stick them back on for a photo op. He only got his hand stuck 5 times.

Tesla: alternatively we've got this one going cheap. It only has one swastika painted on the side that we couldn't get off, otherwise it's brand new.

[–] j4k3@lemmy.world 15 points 21 hours ago

It's a hot deal. Like, no really, someone needs to put out the fire from that Molotov cocktail... Fucking Patriotism throwing our Tesla tea into the bay.

[–] dutchkimble@lemy.lol 3 points 15 hours ago

This happened to me with cyberpunk

[–] Ilovethebomb@lemm.ee 9 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

His business is wrapping vehicles, and he says he's already wrapped quite a few of them, so at least part of the reason he has one seems to be marketing his business.

[–] huppakee@lemm.ee 2 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

I'd have believed you after the first source though

[–] gonzo-rand19@moist.catsweat.com 5 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, I just noticed that some of these aren't actual "news" sources, so I added a couple of others that seem to corroborate each other. It's important to get a varied perspective when the source is new to you or doesn't have established credibility.

[–] huppakee@lemm.ee 1 points 13 hours ago

Thanks though, no harm done

[–] some_dude@lemm.ee 1 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

I'll say this about the cyberfuck; flat surfaces are super easy to apply vinyl to.

FWIW most of those surfaces are not truly flat, though - they still have a bit of curvature to them.
