Educational content. I'll get udemy or pluralsite content if I'm studying a topic. It has helped me earn certs and stay informed on different tech.

[–] Goun@lemmy.ml 35 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Audiobooks! I buy the books but I'm too lazy to read them.

[–] JohnBrownsBawdy@hexbear.net 5 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (2 children)

Where’s a good place to find them? I was going to go back to Usenet for lack of other options, but need to look at what’s actually getting posted.

[–] theskyisfalling@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Myanonamouse is the best place for audiobooks IMO.

[–] somerandomname@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 years ago

Audio Books Bay (ABB) is good too.

[–] Kissaki@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 years ago (2 children)

If you buy the book but listen to it as an audiobook, wouldn't buying the audiobook in the first place be an option then?

That’s 3d printing files right? Where can you pirate them and what wouldn’t be on thingiverse?

[–] schizo@forum.uncomfortable.business 16 points 2 years ago (1 children)

There's a ton of commercial/locked-behind-patreon stuff, usually around things like RPG scenery or figures and such.

Like, an immense library of shit that's not free.

[–] ComradeMiao@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Oh yeah, like 40k stuff? Where do you find this stuff? I have access to unlimited free PLA

[–] ingeanus@ttrpg.network 13 points 2 years ago

Check out kemono.su / kemono.party. They're a patreon(among other subscription service) archive site that makes use of crowdsourced keys. It'll initially look like 110% porn, but you can often find other patreons there if you search those specifically, such as those for 3d printing stls. It can sometimes be hit or miss whether they properly archive downloads, but they're usually a worthwhile option.

I don't have a specific place; just some of the private general-purpose trackers I'm on will occasionally have someone come by and dump a pile of STLs from various places on them.

(The private part, unfortunately, means I can't actually share more, sorry - fight club rules and whatnot.)

Depending on your political vuews you could download open-source files for guns incase they get taken down

[–] Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 years ago

That's not really piracy, is it? I'd say it's more like censorship circumvention.

[–] AngryishHumanoid@reddthat.com 6 points 2 years ago

Why have I never thought of that...

[–] Bitswap@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago

Never had luck finding anywhere that has .stl's. Any hints on where to look?

Scientific papers, I love doing research and a university .edu address doesn’t last forever. Not a damn chance I’m paying for those journals lol, shoutout scihub

[–] ComradeMiao@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 years ago

True! Wish there was one for humanities :/

[–] HappyTimeHarry@lemm.ee 17 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Printer ink. I got a cheap canon printer and drilled holes in the ink cartridges so I can refill them using generic ink for 1/1000th the cost of what the printer companies charge.

[–] ComradeMiao@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Could you link how? That’s so cool

[–] HappyTimeHarry@lemm.ee 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Sure thing, this outlines how to modify the ink carts: https://www.wikihow.com/Refill-Canon-Cartridges

And you can buy bulk printer ink for around $10 for all 3 colors+black on sites like amazon or ebay.

[–] ComradeMiao@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 years ago

Thanks! That's an awesome deal

[–] daniskarma@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (4 children)

Boardgames.

I am still to actually print them. But I have the files.

RPG books. These I actually have them printed.

[–] Duke_Nukem_1990@feddit.org 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Interesting. How much do you spend to print a typical core rulebook of say, the coastal magician type?

[–] daniskarma@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 years ago

B&w around 2-3 cents/page, depends on the amount of ink coverage.

Then binding is free where I do it, and shipping cost. Maybe 5-10€ depending number of pages. I did like a bunch of books at once to reduce shipping.

Apps that have what I think are unfair payment structures.

No, I'm not paying a > hundred dollar subscription for your app with server-side features I didn't ask for.

[–] ComradeMiao@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 2 years ago

Great point! I did this with Adobe until I switched to Linux

backups of books I have bought with ebooks..

Foliate on linux is a great ebook reader

(or KOreader on both androix linux - this setup allows you sync your page progress)

[–] unrushed233@lemmings.world 13 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Might be controversial, but I pirate OnlyFans content (porn). I ain't payin a monthly subscription for that shit. Telegram is pretty great for that.

[–] furycd001@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Could you share a bit more about how you use telegram for that purpose? I'd like to learn more. Thanks. I've never used telegram before btw....

Comics (though it probably falls into 'basic media'), well over 1TB at this point either way.

[–] hendrik@palaver.p3x.de 4 points 2 years ago

I don't think I'd like to admit to anything. But during my research, I found large compilations of leaked passwords, sheet music for not so popular music instruments, vintage software and abandonware...

[–] Honse@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Can you explain pirating of unraid licenses? I have already paid for one but didn't know this was possible

[–] ComradeMiao@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 years ago

There’s a crack of it running around that tricks it into thinking you have a license. Of course idk if they also changed something nefarious.

I ran it for a while before I decided it wasn’t worth the risk and also run more Linux now
