Hi Boost gang,

The first version of Boost for Lemmy is almost ready. If you want to test the app for bugs and give feedback before the app is published, follow this link https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.rubenmayayo.lemmy to enable an early access option on the Boost for Lemmy Play Store listing.

Thanks for your patience!

How do I hide, or limit the height of images people embed into their comments such as this one, in Boost?

This image is huge for example, and ideally I just want a small version I can tap to expand, and not have to scroll past this whole thing (plus it seems like it's cropped on the sides, only showing half a phone screen on either side - or maybe that's the full image I don't know?).

Thanks!!

Can you explain the data collection usage on Google play store?

[-] skybox@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago

Yeah this honestly makes me hesitant to download idk why there are so many data sharing permissions. Maybe they're default?

[-] Merlin404@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

In my experience veta aps usually have more, to collect statistics, crashes, and things like that. Once tha app is stable usually It need less collecting but I can be wrong to

[-] MeatAndSarcasmGuy@lemmy.world 26 points 1 year ago

I just installed the app and so far it's working pretty well, though if I'm being honest, I am definitely a little concerned by all the baked-in tracking.

In terms of features I'd be interested in seeing there are three that come to mind:

  1. Community icons in compact/ dense views. While Lemmy is still in its infancy, I have to browse c/All most of the time and being able to visually see the community the post is coming for is definitely helpful for browsing.
  2. Multiple accounts in one feed. In my opinion, this is one thing that Lift-off has over every different Lemmy app. With so many instances with varying levels of federation, I find being able to browse all my accounts at once to be a very convenient feature.
  3. Being able to download to an SD card. I know SD cards are a dying breed, so this is probably low priority for you, but as someone with very low internal storage; but a very large SD card, it's always a welcome feature when I can find it.

Overall I would say this app already shows a significant amount of polish. Hopefully the development can continue even further.

It's gorgeous. Just as I remember. Like it was never taken from us. I was trying out a couple other apps while waiting for the beta and I immediately uninstalled both of those and removed ads for Boost. It's a really well designed app in all aspects. Thanks Rubรฉn!

Does buying ad free disable usage data sharing with the ad networks?

Can't login due to 2FA!

Other than that..the fact that I was able to export my Boost For Reddit settings and import them for Lemmy is just perfect ๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿฅน

Oh! and now we get picture previews in the comments! Hooray!

I'll let you know how it works once I can log in. Right now, TOTP doesn't seem to be supported so there's no way for me to complete authentication.

Hi, missed you a lot since Reddit's demise.

Can we do this without having a google account?

Thanks

Replying with Boost for Lemmy and immediately paid for ad free! Happy to make occasional donations for my favorite app

[-] boyi@lemmy.sdf.org 10 points 1 year ago

It's very smooth. I've not found lemmy apps this smooth other than Sync. So, I can say, we have a worthy contender.

[-] Nfntordr@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Love it and ads removed. Enjoy your coffee!

[-] spiderman@ani.social 10 points 1 year ago

Really good so far, but can we get back the old "Hide read posts" option back? It was really a handful when I was using Boost for Reddit.

[-] can@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I've been happy with Sync but more polished competition is a good thing. First thing that bothers me here though is seeing total "karma" counts on my profile. That's not something I want to see.

The viewable list of user uploaded images is a great feature though and one I hope to see replicated.

[-] forevigt@reddthat.com 9 points 1 year ago

I agree, the karma count was not something that I wanted to see either.

Who'd be a Dev!...the feature requests already rolling in....๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ˜…

[-] cupcakezealot@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 1 year ago

Thanks (can't wait to launch the rocket ;))

The only thing I'd point out is that downvotes are disabled on my instance so it would be nice to hide the downvotes in the app but that's a minor nitpick. Also I don't think it prompted me to put in my 2FA code when I logged on.

[-] stella@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 1 year ago

first comment from boost for me! thanks for the great work <3

[-] rjc@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

Bought.. I'd forgot what I was missing. It's like a warm hug.

[-] djvinniev77@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 year ago

I got it and had a bit of a hard time getting in the beta. But I got in, and I'm loving it. So much that I sent up the no ads payment. Didn't really see any, and I hope I don't, but I just wanted to say I appreciate the dev and wanted to show support. Thanks again for being here, loved it for Reddit, really love it again that's it's in Lemmy!

[-] Polar@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 year ago

Feels good to be home.

[-] DepthCharge@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Am I doing something wrong when Im not able to download the app in the store? Says "coming soon", I applied to be a tester. But can't download the app. On Android

[-] rigamarole@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

I encountered the same. What I did to fix it was back out after becoming a tester and go back in.

I'm finally home. Already got ad-free

[-] ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk 8 points 1 year ago

Does the login support TOTP tokens? It says I didn't submit one but there wasn't an option to.

Beyond delighted. Feels like coming home! Rocket launched ๐Ÿ™‚

[-] GoOnASteamTrain@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 year ago

It is lovely to be back on boost! :) I did miss it an awful lot :) It's exactly as I remembered, once AMOLED dark mode and theming are there, I couldn't think of a feature I'd want :)

Adfree bought! :)

I opted out of the GDPR stuff (I'm in the UK) and am Ad-free, is that all that's needed to get the Amazon tracking stuff out the equation for me?

Thanks for your hard work on this! Paid for premium immediately :)

I'd love to see integration for custom emojis, for example accessing Lemmy on the web I am able to type : and then an emoji name and it will autofill emojis from my instance.
