Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss
  3. GPrime85

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

Which of the two major parties stands against capitalism again?

[–] chewypoops@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago (8 children)

Neither, unfortunately, but we have a two-party system, and one side is openly fascist, so I would advise that anyone who doesn't like fascism vote for the other non-fascist (arguably less-fascist) party.

I don't like voting for the "lesser evil" and wish things were better, but voting for unviable candidates out of a sense of blind idealism is worse, because it empowers the most regressive movements to succeed.

We don't currently live in a real democracy, but we have a chance to turn things around. If you decide to give up and let the fascists win, you're one of the bad guys.

[–] Equinox1289@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 week ago (2 children)

We need Ranked Choice Voting and Mixed Member Proportional districting to reduce the need for strategic voting.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 week ago

Sure, that's obvious to you and me, as seasoned internet users. But we can't expect lawyers and career politicians to understand such things. They must be ignoring it by accident.

One of them is the "Openly advocates for billionaires" party and the other is the "Discretely advocates for billionaires" party.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Which third party has a chance to actually win or do something and isn't just throwing your vote out?

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

All of them, complain about non-voters not voters.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Okay let's see. We have a large part of the population who just won't vote. Voter apathy is real.

Of the Democrats and Republicans, you have about 2/3 of each party that are voting like it's a sports team. They'll never change and they'll never think.

The thinking people who vote for each party understand that the third party has no chance and they're trying to sway things generally in their direction.

So the third party victory plan, if I have it correct, is to overcome voter apathy, and also to sway some people who are voting like a sports team from both parties.

If that's your plan for victory, then you don't have a plan for victory. And you're just wasting your vote.

Call me cynical, but I think third parties are funded by people outside the country to sway the election. Just like they only thaw out Jill Stein every 4 years to steal votes from the Democrats, and then they park her in a Russian freezer somewhere for the rest of the time.

[–] skidicarus@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Part of building a viable alternative is getting enough votes for consistant ballot access and other resources that are afforded by default to the two primary parties. Winning comes in degrees.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Yet Jill Stein vanishes for four years between Presidential elections and does absolutely nothing to support a third party coalition at the state and local level.

And she somehow deserves your vote for simply not being a D or R? Yeah nah.

[–] ahkian@thelemmy.club 3 points 1 week ago

She basically works for Russia.

If that was really the strategy they would start with local elections.

[–] skidicarus@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago

Idk about your state, but that is the case here in MD with Greens and the Working Class Party. Also true for the Working Families Party in other states. Presidential elections have a purpose in generating attention, though.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I'm not sure I fully understood that . But the first step in any change is ranked choice voting. If we had that then we could do three parties or more.

As it stands, we've devolved into a two-party system and neither party will give up control.

[–] LemmySuxNow@reddthat.com 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

"They won't actually fix anything but they might win" is an unbelievably terrible argument

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (19 children)

No. It's "which of these two horrible choices might we influence to make some progress"

You don't get a third choice for the big things. It's mathematically and literally impossible.

Which anti-capitalist third-party has even a 0.000001% chance of winning enough seats to be an impediment to Trump?

[–] LemmySuxNow@reddthat.com 3 points 1 week ago (8 children)

Why do you believe Trump losing the presidency will change anything?

[–] Kurtismayfield@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

Voting blue donkey slows the slide, it doesn't stop it. Remember they are the pall in the system

winning enough seats to be an impediment to Trump

Trump was already voted out once; and in the intervening four years the Democrats proved themselves to be incapable of impeding Trump.

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

How many boats of civilians did Binlden order to be sunk? How many heads of state did he kidnap or assassinate in wars of choice? How many American cities did he occupy with military units? How many of his political opponents did he have the justice department charge with baseless crimes? How many Nazis did he dine with?

The Dems piss me off, but saying the only reasons to say they're no different than the Republicans are:

  1. Being a fucking idiot ;or

  2. Atremptingto prop up the GOP by convincing leftists not to vote against them.

[–] BananaLama@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

If the goal is to change the system then voting for either one will never get you to your goal.

I want the current 2 party system to die. And that can only happen if a third party wins. That's in my opinion the highest priority item.

If you have a path to change the system of governance, that could be worth pursuing. But voting isn’t a path to that - just a form of harm reduction within the system.

You still buy groceries - even though you may hate the process of handing over your net worth for something that helps sustain your life and want to change that.

[–] LemmySuxNow@reddthat.com 5 points 1 week ago

Voting is still worth doing, but certainly not all one should do.

[–] Kurtismayfield@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

One of the parties wants it regulated slightly. The other one would allow lead in baby formula if it increased profit.

Oh is it time for "Both Sides" already? Forgot to mark my calendar

[–] Mulligrubs@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It's always time for bOtH sIdEs, because BoTh keep bOtHiNg.

Yes, i know one is pro-church and the other is pro-trans.

My problem is that they are BoTh anti-union and pro-Epstein. That's the rub.

Pro-trans? My nuts, they were pro trans when they could use that as a tool to get votes, then they dropped them like a stone the second trump won again to try and pull votes from the right. Same thing they've been doing with POCs since like the 70s, they don't care they just want your votes to keep the insider trading machine rolling.

What's more they (and by "they" I mean BoTh of them) actually have an incentive NOT to fix anything, at least not in any meaningful way, because if say, the Ds actually do get guns banned (or Rs and abortion, etc), then they can't run on it again in the future and that's one less wedge issue to indoctrinate you into the color cult with.

Just make sure that when you’re candidate wins you go to brunch or the fascists will hear your protest and you’ll get fascism again.

[–] nexguy@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Which third party is against capitalism? Legit curious.

[–] LemmySuxNow@reddthat.com 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

There are a few. Off the top of my head the Green Party is the biggest one, and the Labor Party is having a resurgence.

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If just 1% of the green party voters in Florida had voted for Gore, George W Bush would never have been President and we wouldn't have gone to war in Iraq or opened a torture camp in Cuba.

Isn't it great those people voted for Nader.
