More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

Barclays is cutting its staff by around 5,000 as it introduces more artificial intelligence (AI) into its work processes.

The banking group said 1,000 posts had already been closed and it expects a further reduction of 4,000 to be complete by the end of this year.

The cuts amount to 5% of its global workforce with most of them among operational and functional roles.

Barclays said the changes were the result of an ongoing modernisation plan, with the use of AI being the "icing on the cake" of its strategy.

"Modernisation" lol - human beings are soooo last century.

I'm with Nationwide and overall happy. But I recently discovered there are no humans available on the phone after office hours, just a robot that puts you on hold because "all our advisers are busy right now". Busy at home, cooking their dinners! I ended up in tears when I found the small print on the website, after holding for half an hour. I complained and they gave me £50.

That's ridiculous. No issue with their advisers not working at times, it's good their employees are (hopefully) treated well. But they should at least be honest with you.

It was ridiculous - and such an easy thing to fix! Just a response like "no-one's home right now, please leave a message".
