Everyone here seems to believe body odour is universally a bad thing that's objectively disgusting. Smells are mostly conditioning, Europeans will delight themselves smelling cheeses that would make Asian people puke, we add literal rotten sour grapes to every single salad we eat, and fuck, the smell of WET CARDBOARD induces hunger into people because we're conditioned to associate it with pizza in a cardboard delivery box. My ex used to sniff my balls after sweaty days because she loved the smell and my current girlfriend finds it nice to smell my armpits in the morning, and I'll have you know her pussy smells of heaven to me.

Normalizing body odour does not mean "well, unfortunately it's a natural thing, so we should just shut up and deal with stinky people for the rest of history", it means "once people get used to a certain degree of body odour on each other we won't notice it and/or consider it a bad thing, and it would imply benefits for skincare for many". Nobody is trying to implement a fucking shower ban, shower as much as you want, there is simply a diversity of people with a diversity of bodies who smell more, smell less, and have different skins which require different routines.

This take is objectively correct, and whoever disagrees because "ew" is a child who refuses to critically examine social conditioning on themselves.

Your wife smelling your balls is fine.

I don't want to smell your balls.

Don't make me tap the sign:

I don't want to listen to you play music out loud on your phone either.

It's not ew, it's annoying. It's an outside imposition on my senses that I don't want.

I gave you a well-reasoned comment regarding social conditioning of smells. Living in community implies a ton of impositions, such as being subjected to seeing how people choose to dress and cut their hair, which I hope you don't see as annoying too. If the best response you have is "but I'ont wanna", I don't have much else to reply to you. Keep complaining about how ugly ripped jeans are or something.

Living in community implies a ton of impositions,

And one of those impositions is bathing! If we don't regularly bathe, the community smells like unwashed buttholes and sweaty balls.

Some people would get used to it, but I wouldn't, because I get overstimulated by being assailed by too many different sensorial experiences at the same time. It's not even these specific smells that are bad, per se, I just prefer to smell nothing when I'm in public because it's already stressful enough (although the factor of "this smell comes from a person" does make it more stressful). So, I happen to like this imposition. Getting rid of it would make it hard for me to be in crowds.

People wearing perfume also bother me, but society has decided those smells are okay, so I'm out of luck.

Cool, how about instead of maintaining a stigma around body odour, we understand different peoples' needs and sensibilities? As much as you and others have a tendency towards overstimulation with smells, (which you can mitigate wearing a facemask), many others have different bodies and skins which smell more, smell less, and are more or less sensitive to different products designed to neutralize and contain smells.

I fully agree against the use of strongly scented perfumes in enclosed spaces, but you're mixing it up with normal bodily functions.

Again, I'm not arguing for a shower ban. Big part of the reason why you're sensitive in particular to body odour is social conditioning, and IG you hadn't been conditioned against it you'd likely find it much more tolerable.

Fortunately for you, human bodies don't naturally spontaneously play music out loud

Does everyone here genuinely dislike the scent of their partners? I really don't get it

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

there's a difference between scent and stank

[–] Feed_el_Castro@hexbear.net 2 points 1 day ago

"Stank" is to "scent" what "full-scale invasion" is to "military action"

[–] Flyberius@hexbear.net 9 points 2 days ago

I don't think so, I just think the bluntness of your comment was pure gold.

[–] TUMBLE_BUS@hexbear.net 6 points 2 days ago

I do in small amounts but I wouldn't exactly want my partner to jump into bed with me after a week of no bathing. I have my limits.

[–] Flyberius@hexbear.net 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Haha. That was some incredible over sharing. I like sweaty pits too.

[–] TUMBLE_BUS@hexbear.net 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Speaking as a bathing defender in this thread, even I kinda enjoy the smell of BO sometimes with certain people. But that's for more intimate moments, not a random guy I'm stuck on a crowded bus with.

[–] Flyberius@hexbear.net 3 points 2 days ago

Oh yeah for sure. It's certain people's stank that I'm here for.

what's the pH compared to the general population though, does it enter the 99th percentile?

ok, but also, ew.

I haven't eaten that many different puss, so I don't have a statistically significant sample that would allow me to perform such judgement.

ok, but also, ew

Fair'nuff

That was a reference to some guy on twitter talking about the ph level of his wife's vagina and sounding like a freakin alien. Some tech ghoul iirc.
