It’s still illegal in PA?!

[–] Eric@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 days ago (2 children)

There's medical, and anxiety is one of the conditions, so you need to pay to talk to a doctor to get certified for a card. So more or less legal with the tax being paying for recertification and a new card every year. But you can buy ounces of 30% buds for $140, so it is definitely better than when it was illegal.

I can drive 5 minutes to NJ and get really good stuff with the lowest taxes of the surrounding states. It is kind of crazy that every state touching PA has it recreational, yet we don’t.

I've found the prices better in PA medical. I was without a card for a bit and was shopping in Jersey for a bit.

[–] mx_smith@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Yeah I would expect medical to be a lot cheaper. Jersey is only 6% which is really good compared to Delaware, Maryland and NY. Let’s not even talk about Illinois their taxes are dependent on how much THC is present in a concentrate or oil.

I've been thinking about getting my medical card. There's a distributor right down the road from me and I've had some wonderful gummies by way of friends that have the card.

I got a business card at the dispensary for a $45 dollar consultation if you want the info

[–] Eric@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 days ago

Definitely! Check at the dispensary. The one I go to has flyers or business cards for doctors with good prices. The good thing is prices are much cheaper for renewals than initial certifications.

Yeah it’s a small model of the US, Philly and Pittsburg on the coasts and nothing but red in the middle, that keep the state from progressing. It’s also full of religious nuts, and from what I have heard is that the Amish are highly against it, as it would cut into their hemp sales.

[–] buttmasterflex@piefed.social 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yup, it's, Philly, Pittsburgh, and Alabama in between! Also one of 4 states with current organized chapters of the KKK. Anecdotally, a few of my friends went spelunking in a local cave system near Lancaster back in college. They exited one of the side access tunnels right next to a house with an active Klan cookout. People in full robes. My friends went back in the cave very quickly.

Wow that’s crazy, but I am not surprised my grandmother just passed away and she lived in Lebanon and there were many old white supremicist types around there.

The Amish really aren't a political entity in Pennsylvania.

[–] mx_smith@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That’s what they want people to think. They are ass holes who are off the grid so they don’t have to pay taxes. Yet they have no problem using wireless technology. Go to any Amish market and you will see all the young Amish kids on their phones. They will talk shit about you in front of your face speaking in their distorted Dutch.

[–] OnyxRex@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago

They're much more visible in eastern Ohio.

[–] aceshigh@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The Amish are selling it too. I’m surprised they’re against it.

[–] mx_smith@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Yeah they sell “hemp” not cannabis, same as all the southern states so they can get around the laws they pushed to enact. It’s just crazy. If cannabis is legal to buy at a store then no one would buy their dirt weed at a farmers market.

[–] Sabata11792@ani.social 5 points 2 days ago

You have to spend $200 and talk to an entity calming to be a real human doctor once a year to get a medical card.

You still can't buy alcohol at a gas station in PA unless it has seating. It is not a forward thinking state.

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'd say that's a legit good thing, but then again my Euro brain can't comprehend why someone would bother going to a gas station to buy alcohol when there's a corner shop almost everywhere that has cheaper shit.

[–] SpruceBringsteen@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

In the US, gas stations are the corner shops outside of urban areas.

But in PA, even corner shops can't sell alcohol without the proper licenses. You've got to go to a specially licensed beer distributor or wine & spirits store. Grocery stores just recently were allowed and they're limited to beer and wine. A corner shop could get around this by providing seating and getting a license meant for restaurants to serve alcohol. Even then, hard liquor is only found at the state run wine and spirits stores.

At least that's my current understanding. It's stupidly convoluted so I probably got something wrong. I don't even know where breweries without seating fall into the mix.

[–] OnyxRex@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 days ago

holy cow, is that why only some of the getgos have beer? I thought they changed the laws...

Yep! I had to smuggle it across the border from NJ last time I was around that area. Being stoned on gummies riding the train is great!

[–] aceshigh@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Yes. So is flying. 10/10.

[–] deliriousdreams@fedia.io 3 points 2 days ago

Medical marijuana is legal in PA. But that's the extent of it.
