Go look at the thread of my instance defederating from hexbear, do you think all those people just hallucinated the toxicity? Ml is much better but does have a significantly higher portion of tankies who will minimize atrocities. No normal person wants to deal with that.

The definition of communist does not include half the lines in the Wikipedia page or any of these other pages that define it. Any person that looks this up will not be using the definition of tankie = communist, so you are either equivocating or failing to communicate.
Tankie is a pejorative for those who support existing socialist states. This is a real group of people, usually associated with Marxism-Leninism but also some anarchists, social democrats, etc. fit that label as well. I just default to "communist" because I think it's silly to continue the conversation based on a strawman.
Lemmy.ml is associated with Marxism-Leninism, and the owner is a Marxist-Leninist. Marxism-Leninism is the most historically and presently significant branch of socialist practice.

Nobody's saying the creators of Lemmy (and therefore the admins of .ml) aren't communists, but .ml itself is mostly tech/foss content and has no requirements for one's own political views to make an account. Other instances like Hexbear explicitly describe themselves as "leftist" and do have a political focus.
Trump would have already invaded if the DPRK didn't have nukes.

The DPRK doesn't kill and starve their own people, this is a fantasy. They had a period of famine in the late 90s and 2000s that they have recovered from, largely caused by sanctions, mass flooding, and the loss of the USSR. The CIA would trade bags of rice for ox tails, which meant farmers in the DPRK got short term food in exchange for ruining future harvests. It was a tremendous and genocidal attack on the DPRK that they have since, again, recovered from and are booming presently thanks to arms sales.

Your takeaway , that the only way to build a socialism is through "seizing power and never lose it" a.k.a turning from socialist system into yet another state oligarchy is also hilarious, because this is literally what the so called "social bloc" , the fact that soviet union and china was no different from corpocracy , where the main goal is oppress any independent worker unions, silence the people, and own as much as possible in the hands of the one guy. This system is unsustainable and leads to anything but socialism. Socialism without democracy is not socialism by the very fundamental idea of socialism, the society supposed to own the means of production, not the state oligarchs , that cannot be replaced by democratic voting. Okay, if you're just talking about the DPRK having prisons and executions, yeah, obviously they do. A lot of countries do, it's not unusual. I guess you want prison abolition and restorative justice, but the material conditions to do that don't exist yet. We are limited by our material conditions, all a poor country can do is put people in prison and put them to work and kill the worst offenders.
But it's a joke to smear the DPRK as being especially heinous when the US prison system exists. The DPRK could perhaps reform its prisons some, but it still needs them to maintain stability and sovereignty. The US could abolish its prisons, it just won't.

The """tankie dictatorship""" is something that exists because of hegemony. Actually existing socialist countries are responding to the empire's meddling, that's literally why they are the way they are. A country that does not repress counterrevolutionary forces is a country that will fall to color revolution, and we have seen this over and over and over. If Salvador Allende had immediately begun building a military apparatus to defend the revolution and criminalized counterrevolution, Chile might not have fallen to CIA meddling.
EDIT Venezuela failed here too, because they didn't build up a military. If they had spent the past nearly-30 years since Chavez's election building rockets and drones to shut down the Panama Canal, they could have defended the revolution. Instead, they focused on peaceful development, and we now see that was a mistake.
Those are the choices. Use violence and repression to survive, or peacefully open up and die.
Once the empire falls, these systems will need to change. Until it does, though, they're necessary to maintain sovereignty.
