Emptying the dishwasher of dishes they ate food off of, that they didn't pay for, or prepare, isn't "cheap labor" or "abuse," it's responsibility.
Teaching kids how to clean up after themselves, cook, do laundry, etc. isn't "cheap labor," it's teaching them how to not live like pigs.
Stealing their phone does not teach them to clean up after themselves.

It's the internet. We could lie and say we have many kids who are happily contributing without discipline, just like you could lie that you have many kids who still talk to you despite what a piece of shit you were to them.
Focus on what happened in the post. The child's phone was stolen because grandpa is a dickhead. This is wrong because the consequences are unrelated and disproportionate. Children are not free labor. Do not normalize abuse.

She did not buy the phone. She does not pay the phone bill. She is a minor, she does not have a source of income or money to purchase things.
Her parents bought the phone, with their money, that they earned from their labor. And they continue to pay for the phone with their time and labor. She does not own the phone... her parents own it. And they let her use it. They are not forced or required to give her a phone. Children do not have a right to a phone, or things. Her parents cannot "steal" a thing that belongs to them.
Only a delusional, self centered, entitled child would not understand this concept by now. That's you....

Do you think her parents made her sign a contract before giving her the phone? Did they say "this is our phone, we're loaning it to you, but we can take it back any time?"

if you think making a kid do chores is child abuse, you are delusional. kids have to learn how to be independent, and not giving them chores and routines is a disservice to them and bad parenting.
Key word: making. Overriding consent when it's not a matter of life-and-death is abusive. Stop normalizing it.
