Rules:

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Justice Thomas too forecasted that "technology may evolve to the point where it becomes impossible to enforce actual child pornography laws because the Government cannot prove that certain pornographic images are of real children." In his view, "if technological advances thwart prosecution of 'unlawful speech,' the Government may well have a compelling interest in barring or otherwise regulating some narrow category of 'lawful speech' in order to enforce effectively laws against pornography made through the abuse of real children."

Why does it matter than some tiny fraction of AI training data is child porn? Does it taint the whole model, or just when it generates child porn, and why? Does the fact that it has trained on other problematic content, such as photographs of real murders, mean that generated pictures of people being killed is more problematic than other ways of making those pictures? (Not to the point of illegality, since possessing pictures of a murder is not usually illegal). "Respect for the victims" is a vague thing that could be used to justify more or less anything; it's not a sufficient principle, in my opinion, for curtailing freedoms. Not without something more concrete and objective.

CP is a synonym for CSAM, although CSAM is more respectful. This is just semantics.

"Semantics" means "what stuff means", and what CSAM means specifically is Child Sexual Abuse Material. It's not just a synonym.

I’m saying that if it’s something ONLY used for that, then its harm is undeniable.

You're going through a number of situations which are harmful, and I don't disagree about that. But that doesn't prove that every situation is harmful. Just having child porn on your computer doesn't harm anyone. Hell, jerking off to it does not - as far as I am aware from the present best research - harm anyone.

And what would stop a predator from saying that a footage or picture of CSAM was AI generated and get away with it?

If you can't prove harm, then it shouldn't be illegal, I don't think. If there's proof of harm, then it doesn't matter what the predator says.

My first comment said:

There is currently no good evidence that consuming child porn leads to abusive behaviour - there is some contradictory evidence of the kind you mentioned.

As such I think it should be legal unless it is established that it actually does lead to harmful behaviour.

Next time, try and pay more attention to the comments you're replying to. You should have understood this already.
