Well folks, I found an IRL cat hater!

Genuinely took me off guard when she said that.

She also snarled in disgust when I showed her a picture of one of the sweet heart strays in my neighborhood.

.....Probably coming off as a fake post, but no, I'm being serious!

dog owners are 100x more annoying than cat owners, esp indoor cats. Cats don't bark incessantly. And after seeing a pit bull latch onto a border collies face, im good on the violent breeds. cat haters lack the emotional maturity to deal with a cat, they need the automatic loyalty of a dog. nvm the fact i can't leave the house longer than 8 hours. my friend with the pit bull has to have his parents walk the dogs at lunch. also dog houses tend to smell because their stink gets everywhere. my friend ripped out his old carpet and when i walked in his house last week, i could tell the air was fresher. he's also just a filthy person though. having a dog is too close to having a child.

[–] StalinsGiantSpoon@hexbear.net 2 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

yea the facts and data are quite unfair to them.

[–] combat_brandonism@hexbear.net 4 points 2 weeks ago

this is like one degree removed from the '15% of the population, 40% of the crime' dogwhistle redditors love to do

[–] SootySootySoot@hexbear.net 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The correlation sure isn't pretty, the causation is significantly less clear

[–] StalinsGiantSpoon@hexbear.net 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

nah it's pretty clear. Many kinds of dogs bite, people like to always mention chihuahuas bite the most, but im pretty sure nobody has died or been mangled by a chihuahua. i know someone who took in a cane corso from a shelter, he has a huge scar on his arm. i knew someone recently decided(stupidly) to get a pit bull when they have two cats. The pit bull was chasing the cats, so they got rid of it. Pit bulls are great if you dont have kids or other pets.

I was ready to get in a fight with you but even I have to admit

he's also just a filthy person though. having a dog is too close to having a child.

It can be worse than having a child because children grow and can speak. Having a puppy is like having a rapid baby that can piss and shit everywhere on command, with teeth that can chew through furniture

[–] EmmaGoldman@hexbear.net 18 points 2 weeks ago

I've been told that having a parrot is like having a four year old with a megaphone and a bolt cutter for a face.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Btw, have you seen what cat claws can do to furniture?

[–] userse31@hexbear.net 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That's why you get a cat tree or something. They need to scratch their nails on stuff.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 3 points 2 weeks ago

Ah yes. Some cats will prefer furniture, regardless. It's like they have their own minds or preferences.

I love cats. I like dogs well enough, if they come with responsible and conscientious care-givers. I don't want another, I prefer the freedom of coming and going as I please, without the cost and time obligations. I don't want to have to choose between crating, to protect against accidents and misbehavior, should I be delayed, for unavoidable incidences, which punishes the dog and leads to further disregulation and misbehavior. Let a neighbor feed the cats or have a gravity feeder and water station, and they're good on their own for a day or two.

I've been looking after a neighbor's cats, while they were out of town. Good on them to ask me, since there was a medical emergency that delayed their return, by several days.

honestly I dont think cats should be alone for 8 hours or longer... recently went to grab some mail for someone as a favor and they went out of town for a few days and left their cat. Poor guy was crying and was so happy to see me 😭 I felt so bad that I had to leave him alone.

[–] StalinsGiantSpoon@hexbear.net 1 points 2 weeks ago

i have four cats, theyre never alone.

[–] average@hexbear.net 9 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

Dog owners have told themselves they have to put up with all the dog stuff and deep down they hate it.

Guess who never has to go out in the rain to watch their dog shit on their sidewalk? Or then have a wet fucking dog romping through the house? Me with my 3 cats who shit in a box without being trained and clean themselves multiple times a day.

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I lived on a big giant farm with some dogs for a bit. Dogs rock in that scenario. Dogs are country animals

[–] average@hexbear.net 2 points 2 weeks ago

That’s very fair. Having the space to let them run off the energy is huge.

[–] UmbraVivi@hexbear.net 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Dog owners have told themselves they have to put up with all the dog stuff and deep down they hate it.

Yeah it can be annoying and frustrating. But I can tell you that my dog was on vacation with my parents for two weeks and I missed her so much. They're just worth all the annoying parts.

[–] average@hexbear.net 2 points 2 weeks ago

I don’t doubt that at all, it’s just not for me. I get the same feeling from my cats after a long work day.

Different strokes for different folks.

[–] Lussy@hexbear.net 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Dog owners have told themselves they have to put up with all the dog stuff and deep down they hate it.

Not even going to lie here, you’re probably right. I might as well be having children for this amount of effort

[–] average@hexbear.net 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That’s why I’m not having children either lol

[–] ToastedRavioli@midwest.social 13 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Ideally you should never have to stand out in the rain while waiting for your child to shit on the sidewalk, but I might just not know enough about parenting

[–] ByteFoolish@hexbear.net 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That's the problem with kids these days. All of this gentle parenting stuff

[–] ToastedRavioli@midwest.social 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Right. Back in my day we shat on the sideawalk uphill both ways, rain or shine. We didnt have “supervision”

[–] StalinsGiantSpoon@hexbear.net 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

my friend i lived with(and i had my 1 cat too) always complains about "cats shit inside!"

Guess what his pit bull does literally everytime i go over there? it pisses right on the floor. how does he clean it up? with an absolutely disgusting towel.

[–] average@hexbear.net 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Ew holy shit… that’s fucking vile.

[–] StalinsGiantSpoon@hexbear.net 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

yea its kinda tough visiting there. when i lived there i guess i was the only one keeping stuff clean(and he didnt have the piss bull then)

[–] average@hexbear.net 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

but like... there is keeping stuff clean and then there is not letting your pets piss and shit on the floors and walls...

not only is that person not cleanly, but they are not training their dog out of the behavior that's adding to the uncleanliness.

some people just don't make sense to me.

[–] StalinsGiantSpoon@hexbear.net 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

yea he has many issues really. likes to complain about how his life sucks(and ill admit, its not great) but he does nothing at all to better himself. He doesnt want a relationship at all either, mostly because he refuses to change. its weird.

[–] average@hexbear.net 1 points 2 weeks ago

Hey we are all struggling, I’m the last one to say I’ve never let my depression spiral me into a slob phase. However, if there was a 50/50 shot I was cleaning up dog piss before I could even walk into my home, I would be losing my mind with anticipation every evening on my way home. That would just keep me in the mindset for longer.

[–] mrfugu@hexbear.net 7 points 2 weeks ago

their stink gets everywhere

As a cat-owning stoner, don’t underestimate nose blindness, it’s incredibly effective.
