I'll start: I love listening to the washing machine running. Relaxing, sounds like hard work I don't have to do. Looking forward to the clean clothes and nice smell! Sewing machine sound makes me all giddy. Sound of my 1988 car engine.

I find chain saws and brushcutters extremely annoying. On some days in spring and autumn I can get quite grumpy about it, even though I rationally know they also save a lot of hard work.

Best: Tractor engine idling. It's a nice consistent low rumble that you can feel in the ground even when it's not that loud. Like being rocked to sleep.

Worst: Somebody building a deck or house nearby. Just when you think the random hammers and nail-guns might be over the racket starts up again. Impossible to sleep through.
