Good. They should be. Their entire world view on socialism, caring for others, and brown people doing nice things is about to completely implode in real time. Everything they've been told, everything they've believed, everything they completely commit their every life to is about to change. They may have to gasp have some introspective on how they view the world outside of their bubble.
That must be fucking terrifying.
I read something somewhere... Sometime. The gist of it was that, to some people, their personal beliefs, they are so heavily vested in them, so completely inside a bubble, that anything that threatens that bubble evokes an emotional response akin to a fear of death, because in a sense, if they give up everything they ever believed in, they die. That self has to die to accept reality. And for some, for many, that deal is simply too tough to take, so they double down. Humans get set in their way, and sometimes with extreme stubbornness, and the older they get the worse it gets. At some point, you've invested so much of who you are into your whole life that is has become you. If anything threatens the cohesion of that maze of emotions and thoughts, they react with visceral fear, or aggression, to protect the integrity of their whole sense of self and personality.
Death of ego is a scary thing. Especially in a group, and one you depend on for your survival.
Shit, sorry if I'm rambling, there was an interesting thought in there, it's a bit Freudian but it's a thought I've mulled over for a long time.
Oh no, you summed up what I was trying to say far better than I did. I wasn't entirely joking in my comment. I was 100% serious (albeit with sarcastic undertones). But it's genuinely a real thing. People would rather die than change or believe anything outside of what they have known or been told to believe for so many years.
I could be more coherent but I appreciate your appreciation.
Admitting you were wrong is a bitter pill to swallow under the best of circumstances.
Imagine if your life depended on keeping the lie alive...
What Lie? When did I admit I was wrong?
Are you even replying to the right person?
I was continuing the conversation. MAGA can't admit they were wrong, ever, because admitting you are wrong is very hard even in simple cases. We all know that, we all feel that. Apologizing is hard, and a true life skill.
But imagine if everyone around you is also MAGA, and all your best friends are MAGA, and your store clerk is MAGA, and your child's teacher is MAGA, and all your church members are MAGA.
Then it becomes a matter of survival to stay MAGA, because imagine if you're the odd one out. You might as well come out as baptist in a Calvinist enclave, you know. It's a cult. You can't be wrong, because if you are, your life might as well be over.
I hope it clears up my comment.
