I'm pretty much the same except for the last part. I'm no stranger to opening dozens of tabs and seeing my RAM usage go up, but instead of leaving them open long term, I'll bookmark some and use Tab Stash to stow away the rest.

If I kept all my tabs open long term, I wouldn't have enough RAM to do anything.
