The most clearest description of file explorer: Dolphin (?)

[–] Allero@lemmy.today 16 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (5 children)

Like if Nautilus is any better

Or, like, Total Commander. A wild guess would be some strategy game.

[–] T156@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Meanwhile, Midnight Commander reads like the title to a pornogram.

[–] dihutenosa@piefed.social 6 points 3 days ago

Once a couple employers ago, I got an email from IT admins demanding that I uninstall that "game".

[–] Haaveilija@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

The nautical theme also continues with Nemo

[–] BlackLaZoR@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

Dolphin, the total commander of nautilus!

[–] Asfalttikyntaja@sopuli.xyz 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Wasn’t it named after Norton Commander?

[–] Allero@lemmy.today 1 points 3 days ago

I mean, yeah, but then the same applies to Norton Commander as well :D

The application most likely to cause confusion among True Gamers™ who got fed up with Windows.

(PRO TIP: dolphin is the KDE file manager, dolphin-emu is what you really want. PRO TIP 2: To defeat the PulseAudio daemon, shoot at it until it dies)

[–] BlackLaZoR@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Oh, a hybrid of dolphin and an emu. What a wonderful idea.

[–] T156@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

To defeat the PulseAudio daemon, shoot at it until it dies

Jack is potentially the most sensibly named.

Is pipewire pipe or wire? Only the gods are allowed to know that.

[–] bacon_pdp@lemmy.world 0 points 2 days ago

Just remove the execute bit and then it can’t run. (Or overwrite the first 4 bytes with nulls if you want to permanently disable it)

[–] BCsven@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Or nautilus. My assumption is the files are in your sea not in their cloud.

[–] zeb420@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Lumberjack or woodpecker honestly would have been better names since file systems are basically trees

[–] T156@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

If the file system is a tree, naming the file manager for someone whose job it is to destroy the tree seems silly.

Is that where ranger got it's name?

[–] Bluewing@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

It kind of makes sense. You are swimming the sea of misorganized random piles of files and folders you have created.

[–] kreiger@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (2 children)

WDYM "explorer", is that some weird name for a file manager?

[–] BlackLaZoR@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

You can explore file system, but how would you dolphin it?

[–] BurnoutDV@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

I always loved the logically escalation with konquerer
