The real expression is originally from France «au diable Vauvert».

We also say «aux îles Moukmouk» which is actually a real single remote island in Abittibi, l'Île Moukmouk.

You're absolutely right on both points, I didn't remember until you mentioned it! Didn't know Moukmouk was a real thing, though... The more you know!
