But the devs at ID are still very above average, likely due to that legacy. Their engine runs so well even with all the modern rendering turned on. If microsoft just turns whatever is left of them into another unreal engine slophouse, thats when it will truly be a different company.

My only meeting was that the "they" who revolutionized gaming are not the same people who are in the company now. I have no doubt that they are absolutely top-tier game developers.
