Anyone who would volunteer for that war is a fucking monster.
I was in 1st/2nd grade, but rode the schoolbus with high schoolers in the early 70s. Kids who had relatives drafted. Everyone hated that war but some felt a need to enlist for reasons such as those of Mueller. A good friend of mine enlisted in the Marines 20 years after his uncle was killed in Vietnam, out of a sense of honoring his memory. He is no monster.
The logic is a bit weird though. Like picking up smoking out of solidarity because your buddy died of lung cancer.
So he went to Vietnam to avenge another monster who was killed for being an invader?
We'd be better off as a society if every single person who volunteered for Vietnam never came back.
Many murderer, eerrrrr...soldiers, are obviously against your opinion, but without the balls to say so.
And yes, if no nation would find people willing to die for money, errrr freedom'n'stuff, the billionaires would have to fight each other themselves, and then wouldn't.
But there will always be clueless people, indoctrinated by enough bullshit to do so. Probably especially in the USA where the observationally challenged are legion and even wear red hats.

But, even if you want to give some people the benefit of the doubt because of poor education and indoctrination, Mueller went to Princeton. He wasn't tricked or desperate or clueless; he went to Vietnam knowing exactly what he was signing up for.
