VANCE He has this command : Place. Which is basically, I snap my finger and point. He will run to that place and lay down.

INTERVIEWER You don't have to zap him? like Hasan

VANCE Like Hasan Piker? No

both laughing uncontrollably

INTERVIEWER Wasn't that disgusting?

VANCE There's no electrocution of dogs here.

INTERVIEWER How disgusting is that? What does it tell you about a person?

VANCE I think it tells you that they're bad people. ... If you mistreat dogs, that's almost a 100% sign that you're a going to be a really terrible person.

There are a shocking amount of reactionary types who love animals and see them as precious, pure, untainted by human "degeneration" and so on (Hitler was probably like this given his vegetarianism) but will happily voice smiling support for tossing the untermensch "sub-human" types into lava pits. Because the animals bring them joy while the brown people they don't see as people just stir up programmed rage and insecurity.

I have known several types like this, would be in near tears just seeing an animal get hurt in a film yet shrugged at the suffering of brown people, poor people, etc as it was their fault. They had no fucks to give.

Hitler wasn't really a vegetarian, he rarely ate meat but that was because he had gastrointestinal issues. On paper the Nazis banned animal experimentation, but the ban was waived for war industries, which ended up being most of the Nazi economy.

I know exactly what strain of reactionary you're talking about though. It's why if someone claims to like animals more than people, my immediate response is to ask if they're a vegan. If they are, I'm like, "Oh, okay, an introvert. Fair. Also we can complain about carnists together." If they're not, I know there's a higher than average chance I'm about to hear some i-am-adolf-hitler shit

EDIT: Also wild that this comes up literally days after I unintentionally caused a controversy trying to articulate this same sentiment, lol

I met a German on my travels who was exactly like this. A truly awful human being, but adored animals. Every kind of ism going too.

There’s a German movie called Look Who’s Back about Hitler time traveling to modern Germany and becoming popular again as a comedian. Ultimately the only thing that makes him lose some support is him shooting a dog.
