if your retirement fund is in tesla stock you only have yourself to blame

Only if you are determining the direction of your retirement fund which most aren't.

as someone who is very far from retiring i have no idea about how people manage their retirement funds or how that whole system works. youre right, that would indeed be quite terrible

The majority of people with 401ks don't actively manage them, it's usually generic broad based index funds or similar, which at this point almost assuredly includes Tesla

How much better does the rest of the portfolio do after Musk is ruined and can't buy elections, though?

seems pretty weird to me for them to include a volatile stock such as tesla

On a longer timescale, Tesla volatility was actually pretty low with a strong tend upwards.

This is not financial advice yada yada but I'd recommend researching how ETFs, and broad based indices decide on what stocks to include.

I m thinking of those who have pension funds or 401ks that hold TSLA
