Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Summary

Elon Musk called for the firing of Wall Street Journal reporter Katherine Long after she exposed racist tweets from Marko Elez, a Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) employee who later resigned.

Long’s report revealed Elez had posted remarks promoting racism and eugenics.

“Just for the record, I was racist before it was cool,” Elez posted in July, according to the Journal’s review of archived posts.

Musk, who claims to support free speech, labeled Long “disgusting and cruel” and demanded that she should be fired.

Critics noted the hypocrisy of Musk advocating for a journalist’s removal over accurate reporting on a public official’s misconduct.

Can we fire Musk... into the sun?

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 58 points 1 year ago (4 children)

That's a lot of ∆v, can we fire him out of the solar system instead?

[–] fakeman_pretendname@feddit.uk 19 points 1 year ago (4 children)

One problem would be that he'd expire happy, because he was doing "cool exploration stuff".

Perhaps it would be more environmentally friendly (which would upset him) if he was "retired" in a more traditional, boring, normal manner (which would upset him), on Earth.

He could then be composted and used to grow flowers, in some kind of "All-Nations LGBTQ+ Peace Garden" (which would upset him).

[–] almost1337@lemm.ee 10 points 1 year ago

The amount of special K in his body would probably fuck up the flower garden

[–] itslilith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 year ago

I don't want to piss in the All-Nations LGBTQ+ Peace Garden tho :c

[–] Klear@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

Nobody said anything about giving him oxygen.

Man, now we're debating hypothetical scenarios about how to best get rid of toddleresque billionaire mad kings?

It's no small wonder "the left" in America has been taking daily losses the entire time I've been alive.

[–] crusty@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

And risk him initiating alien first contact? How about sending him to Venus?

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Just fire him, from orbit into the earth. Way more efficient

[–] spooky2092@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

And risk him coming back to earth? Just aim for a vaguely circular solar orbit near the asteroid belt. He can pretend he's on his way to mars forever.

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I mean I'm fine with him coming back to earth, at a very high velocity

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 2 points 1 year ago

Compromise, send him to Venus.

[–] KinglyWeevil@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 year ago

We should fire him into an irretrievable orbit with enough food, water, and oxygen for months. Put cameras everywhere inside the capsule and live stream his descent into madness as he runs out of supplies.

[–] Krik@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 year ago

There's a Tesla in sun orbit. Why not sending him there?

[–] Blumpkinhead@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

What did the sun do to deserve that?

[–] greenbanana@lemm.ee 5 points 1 year ago

Would be a better use of nasa resources

[–] SabinStargem@lemmings.world 3 points 1 year ago

I vote for a collision with that car he launched into space.

[–] TheLowestStone@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

We could try but he's likely to explode if we use one of his rockets.
