Good to know.

I think this just fixes the bug where deleted accounts were invisible to admins. It's a start but doesn't fully address the problem. Still, having it federate the content removal is a step in the right direction.

They've also been throwing out rage bait in the "YSK" community. But yeah, I definitely agree it's a problem. So much so that I've added some built-in filters for that in Tesseract (client-side) to deal with it. I don't want to go into the technical details for fear of that jackass trying to counter them, but suffice it to say they're effective based on their current M.O.. I just need to finish this release and get it pushed out as it's been approaching vaporware status over the last 1-2 months.

I think Piefed is also taking action in either its UI or backend. I don't recall exactly what, but I saw something mentioned a week or two ago on another post complaining about that self-deleting spammer account.

Honestly, I prefer A11 and agree it's gotten worse sense. Thinking mostly along the lines of security patches and the like.

The GSI ROM I'm running on my secondary one is LineageOS on top of the stock system (basically how GSI images work). There's no official LineageOS support, but I'm honestly not sure what the limitation is; may just be no one willing to maintain it.

Unfortunately they don't make them anymore, and they're stuck on Android 11. I have two, and one of them is running a GSI ROM for Android 13 but it's got issues with VoLTE so it's not my daily driver.

Yeah, I've seen those (though not with the built-in charging; that's cool). Even had some Ni-Cd ones back in the 90s. The only issue I have with using those in things like smoke detectors is having to deal with them more often. I can usually get about 18-20 months out of an alkaline but a Ni-MH one would probably be only like 8 months since the voltage and capacity are both lower.

Well, scratch that. I just found what I think you're talking about, and those are 1300 mAh lithium. Those should last longer than an alkaline. Will keep those in mind next time I replace the smoke alarm batteries.

I've got mostly EBL-brand batteries and 8-bay charger. They work well but the charger uses micro-USB which is kind of a bummer.

The other set I have are by PowerOwl. They also work great, and the charger (only a 4 bay) is USB-C.

Both brands are the low self-discharge Ni-MH style and can charge any combination of batteries (some chargers require them to be charged in pairs; neither of these have that limitation), so no complaints.

I've got a few public-facing things in addition to this lemmy instance and have been content until now just returning 404 to any bot user agent. You'd think they'd take the hint that nothing's here for them but no. Had some free time yesterday so finally setup Nepenthes. Seems pretty lightweight so far (not as lightweight as a 404 response but where's the fun in that?) and I've got the bandwidth to spare, so what the heck?

It feels like the digital equivalent of filling Amazon boxes with dog poo and leaving them out for porch pirates.

I mean, you're free to click through the slop generator lol. It's open to the public. Each link at the bottom leads to a new random output based on the transcripts from those two episodes and some Jack Handey quotes to spice it up.

I got sick of AI crawlers not taking the hint so I setup a tarpit (Nepenthes) to feed them endless slop. For the corpus text it generates from, I gave it the transcripts for "The Thaw", "Bride of Chaotica", and a sprinkling of Jack Handey quotes.

"There's only 3 meals a day: Coffee, black" was one of the random permutations when I was doing some checks on the output, so that's what the meme is based on.

Finally deployed Nepenthes and changed my bot route from returning 444 (which is Nginx for "close connection and waste no more resources on this shit) to redirecting to my Nepenthes tarpit.

I set the corpus text to the episode transcripts from Star Trek Voyager's "The Thaw" (the one with the psychotic fear clown) and "Bride of Chaotica". So the output is a random mix of two sets of ridiculous plotlines.

I grabbed this bit of the log about 10 minutes ago, but the stupid bot is still thrashing around in the tarpit. Love it.

Edit: Once again Lemmy World has stopped sending federation activity to my instance so if you reply something witty and I don't do the Lemmy equivalent of a high-five, that's why; I didn't get it.

Meshtbank | A tiny off-grid payment node for Meshtastic, running a lightweight ledger for balances and transfers on low-power hardware. (hackaday.io)
 

With no guarantee that this project would ever be useful or even meaningful, I decided to develop a node called Meshtbank.

Meshtbank maintains a central ledger with users, transactions, and balances. It uses the default channel to broadcast system information such as activation and command notices, and it uses direct messages for all operations. An administrator, authenticated through a PIN, can remotely operate the system: creating and deleting accounts, or checking balances and transaction histories.

This would probably work for like a festival or convention. Don't really see it being practical outside of cases like that, but it's a cool use of Meshtastic nonetheless.

I put a lot of work into writing up decent documentation and SOPs and making them available. Does anyone read them? Pfft, not if my work chat history is any indication. Constantly getting pinged for basic-ass questions I've already answered thoroughly when I wrote up the docs and SOPs.

Not my OC though it would have been had I not found this one when I was scouring for source images. But hey, using someone else's is totally on theme here 🤷‍♂️

Focusing on stealth, pickpocket, and speech this time around.

Edit: Dayum. Arcadia don't fuck around. Pickpocketed her shop key, came back and robbed the place, made a bunch of potions, and sold them back to her. No bounty (so I didn't get caught) but she sent an assassin after me the first time and now the Dark Brotherhood.
