Most companies I've worked for in manufacturing think they are God's gift to the industry when really they're just sitting on some clutch patents and being run into the ground. Idk how there is still production work here

Hospital was having all kinds of problems today but the c section went smooth, the parade of family visiting is done, mom and baby are down for the count. Very happy to be scrunched up on this uncomfortable ass hospital chair

Inherited a little flux core welder a while ago if you know of any good books or videos please share. Had a stick welder years ago but never got a feel for working on thin stuff, I'm guessing this will be the opposite problem.

I het the general theory looking for like practice drills and how to read a weld to know what wrong

Lotta old Victorian homes and factories from that Era did the same thing (without water obviously just a big tower to catch the wind). More like an attic fan than an AC in those cases, still a pretty clever way to move air without electricity. Always impressed by how clever people were back in the old times

So much of that forensics stuff is hokum. Or at least way less certain than it's portrayed on tv or in court. Citations needed did an episode or 2 on i

Seems like I'm getting 3 reactions to this map:

  • Neat map
  • I don't understand this map
  • I will find you and kill your family for this crime against data

Feel like we've got a lot of tech savvy people here seems like a good place to ask. Basically as a dumb guy that reads the news it seems like everyone that lost their mind (and savings) on crypto just pivoted to AI. In addition to that you've got all these people invested in AI companies running around with flashlights under their chins like "bro this is so scary how good we made this thing". Seems like bullshit.

I've seen people generating bits of programming with it which seems useful but idk man. Coming from CNC I don't think I'd just send it with some chatgpt code. Is it all hype? Is there something actually useful under there?

Small towns are rough man. People will run as both the dem and republican candidate in my town and you can't vote in town meetings if you aren't a property owner

I'll paraphrase a twitter comment: man I did not give a single fuck about gen x as a millenial, these posts are so weird. Maybe we're just more exposed to each other now because of social media

The sign up process is just too confusing for most people too. I tried evangelizing it when musk took over and that was everyones response. Need like a temporary instance for new accounts that you can transfer out of once you've got your sea legs

Yeah I'm about to lose my healthcare for 4 months I'm pretty nervous. Gunna get a physical and my teeth cleaned before it runs out but still a lot can go wrong. Wife's grandpa was telling me he's on a pill that's $10,000 a month if you don't have insurance

[-] ezmack@lemmy.ml 42 points 1 year ago

I think 100k is the amount he still owes. Looks like he had a follow up or something that added $250 and insurance covered $175. Context is he had a seizure in the shower and was in the hospital for a month. A lot of plans you have co insurance after hitting your deductible where you split any further costs with the insurance company say 80/20. So it's possible he only ends up paying $20k of that, or his bill was much higher and $100k is what he owes after co insurance

[-] ezmack@lemmy.ml 88 points 1 year ago

Yeah. The bill is real but st judes is a charity hospital. Joking the only way to pay his debt is rob a charity

[-] ezmack@lemmy.ml 45 points 1 year ago

I mean yeah it should but you gotta follow the old saying "don't write when you can speak, don't speak when you can nod, don't nod if you can wink" or whatever. You have an expectation of privacy when sending physical mail for example, but it's still a bad idea to put a crime in writing if you don't have to. Even if it can't legally be used as evidence it can be read. We've seen that with 'parallel construction' from law enforcement

[-] ezmack@lemmy.ml 91 points 1 year ago

Regardless of what you think about abortion laws people just gotta come to terms with the fact that your phone and computer are not reliable partners in crime
